2 essential feature requests
« on: July 31, 2011, 03:40:58 pm »

Would be great if these 2 requests could be implemented into the JRiver build:

1. JRiver to show front & rear album art simultaneously (like Foobar can):

2. JRiver to show album art in jewel CD case, for realism:

Thanks!

If we're to embrace such "retro" realism, shouldn't there be an option to show it as a vinyl record sleeve? ;)

Rick, excellent idea - we're singing from the same hymnsheet!

Seriously though, hint of sarcasm acknowledged - I still think it would be a nice touch. As an option, not default. Another player called Album Player allows this choice of CD or vinyl sleeve effect already !

And I think have few users have expressed a desire to have both front and rear artworks visible.

And sounds!  Like the plastic clacking noise riffling through a shelve of discs. ;-)
And the rewind noise of a cassette, or the switching of tracks in an 8 track.

Oh the memories.

Perhaps when MC encounters an error, it can spit out some virtual cassette tape.

Haha! C'mon Beta Team, I'm being serious here :)

You're playing on the idea of nostalgia - but isn't that what music is largely all about? Songs make us feel a certain way or recall certain times - that is nostalgia too.

Besides, your comments mock the many audiophiles that enjoy listening to vinyl due to the often superior sound quality.

And CDs are hardly out-dated; CD sales continue to generate more revenue than online sales.

The album art is part of the overall package, and JRiver should cater for that.

Incorporate these suggestions and I'll buy you a beer or two!

Nobody is mocking.  The comments are all in fun; call it mild ribbing w/affection.

Your suggestions are fine.  I think we'll all agree they'll likely get prioritized low, as other existing work is prioritized higher.  There are a finite number of developers, each working many hours.

Don't worry, I know you're not being serious  :)

I understand re. priority.  Pity you don't take donations to work on certain requests. Might be a good idea for extra revenue !

lol @ realism...maybe you could add a sliding scale for the user to choose how cracked and dirty the CD case is.... so for those old ABBA CDs you can add the wine stains and cigarette burns, but for the Tinie Tempah CD it can be nice and shiny ?

But isn't this really a request for the possibility to display more than one image per album?

I second that.

I think the jewel case idea is a little silly, but we already offer three cover art styles for the playing track when no visualizations are enabled.  So adding a fourth might be possible.

Does anyone have a high quality jewel case image?  It should use transparency so when put on top of the cover art you get the desired effect.  It should look sharp at 1000x1000.

Thanks.

Great Matt!

Don't know if any of these are what you're looking for? -

I have the first one in higher quality also, though this one is already 1501 x 1332

Not really.

The images need to be semi transparent in spots (alpha channel) where the cover art would show.

Using an image editor, there would be two layers: cover art + jewel case on top but transparent in many areas.

We would need that jewel case layer.

OK no worries, I'll leave the image to someone else. I wondered if the first one could be edited in Paint Shop Pro or equivalent software, where it is possible to increase transparency of parts of an image.

Thanks MrC!

Matt - you had said:

I just wanted to check - viewing 3 cover art styles is possible when viewing in "display view", but not the other views, including "standard view". I was hoping for the option to have the artwork in a jewel case when browsing in "standard view", primarily.

(this view):

Thanks!

A way to store and view front and back images for covers would be great. Both for standard and Theater View. We got the artist images, so why not build something more out of it? We need more art for different things eventually anyway. Series art, Season Art and so on. Images as front and back should automatically flip "sides" when clicking the mouse or hitting enter when image is selected. At least in theater view. Standard view could do fine with showing both sides as an option.

Wow - look at how Coversutra have implemented cases for the album art. There are even 3 options - jewel case, super jewel box or vinyl record!

http://sophiestication.com/coversutra/

Too bad it's for with iTunes! Something like this integrated in JRiver would be great !!
