Failed to connect audio decoder/splitter error
« on: August 04, 2011, 02:34:14 am »

After upgraded to MC16, it cannot play the windows 7 recorded tv file (.wtv). It will have "Failed to connect audio decoder/splitter" error when the wtv files is trying to play. The files played well in MC15, I never have such problem before.

Beat me to it, i was about to report the same thing.  this happens with both versions of Red October i think.  I also tried adding lav video, and that crashed MC.  I thought I'd read that it had been white listed, making it available to select, but it's killing MC on both my machines.

neither of my machines plays the wtv files.  I think this has been happening for a while, but I don't know when it started.  I'm not certain it ever worked for me in Red October; I can't remember specifically trying before.

Did you notice which audio decoder MC tried to connect and failed?

I believe it was with both versions of Red October, which I believe uses an internal LAV Audio build.  I've noticed this for several versions of MC (I think), so I don't think it's likely related to the version of LAV Audio you're using.

I believe I also tried using RO with additional filters, and selected LAV Audio to see if "my" version (0.31 test build) would work better than J River's version, but it had the same issue.

I also get a crash of MC anytime I add LAV Video to RO; on all video files I tried.  they all crash MC immediately upon playing a file with LAV Video, in case they may be related issues.

I don't think I could get MadVR decoder (internal) working either, again, in case it's all related.

Graph-building for wtv and dvr-ms files is a little different from the other files because more Microsoft filters are needed.  We have had trouble using filters such as FFDShow and LAV audio decoder.  It gets trickier when audio involves AC3 because Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio decoder does not decode AC3 when it is used outside of their own application.  What I meant to ask was, when you get the error message, "Failed to connect xxxx decoder to source/splitter filter", what was the word xxxx in the message.

I *think* it said "audio" there (just like the title of this thread), but I'll check in about an hour when I'm home and report back the exact verbiage I get.

do you also need/want me to test any variants RO, ROHQ, RO with additional, etc?

It probably would also include a format word, such as AC3, MPEG, etc.

For now, let's just try to figure out what is going on with RO standard.

sadly, it doesn't.  the exact error message is below, including the capitalized A in Audio.  I'm guessing it might have cut off the LAV_ part of LAV Audio, maybe.

"Something went wrong with playback.

Details:
Failed to connect Audio decoder to source / splitter."

this is with RO Standard.  it happens on both my machines.

I tried turning off video clock, no change.

it takes about 20 seconds or so to give this message the first time i try to play; but fails immediately the next times I try.

Can you provide a log?

Do you have AC3Filter installed on your computer?  If not, can you try installing it?  I wonder if that has anything to do with the problem.

I didn't install any AC3 filter, except ffdshow. The problem only happened after upgraded to MC16. It worked well on MC15 and I didn't install or deinstall anything.

I also have never intentionally installed AC3Filter on either machine, and both are new installs within the last 6 months.

I was having some issues on the HTPC last week and uninstalled it, and installed .86 (I think) from before Red October, and these files played then, so it must be to do with Red October somehow.

I turned on logging, cleared the log, stopped playback of an audio file, played the wtv file, it errored, i emailed it to you (and Matt as I wasn't sure of your email address)

let me know if I can help with anything else

thanks

Got the log.

It appears to be AC3 related problem.  I will try to find a better solution.
