rename file with [Seq]
« on: August 06, 2011, 07:29:48 pm »

I often use a playlist in MC to select and sequence some files prior to "exporting" them for use in another application. For example, music and photos to be produced into a dvd.

The field [Seq], which specifies the position in a playlist, cannot be used by the Rename, Move & Copy Files feature. The workaround I use is to create a temporary field and then manually populate it with the value in Seq. Then copy the files using the temporary field. This is very inconvenient.

Could we please use Seq just like any other field for rename functions?

You can fill the track# field with Seq ("Fill Track Numbers from List Order" under Library Tools), then use that within your file name.

Yes, thank you. But I do not want to modify the files in my library. I want to pick some files using MC to listen/view them and sequence them in the desired order, then export via Copy with Seq in the filename so that the next application can use them in the correct order.

hi rjm, try this thread, http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=50622.0

particularly the customdata(#) link at the end. I think it's exactly what you're after.

thanks marko, CustomData(#) works perfectly.

Rather odd it was not called Seq.
