Video > Advanced > Audio Playback Device Select Issue
« on: August 08, 2011, 04:34:08 pm »

My HTPC uses two sound outputs, one for music (Optical) and another for Video (HDMI).  I have set MC accordingly and subject to the video display always being active, it works a treat.

Unfortunately, if the HTPC is operated without the HDMI display being active, the audio device selected under  Video > Advanced > Audio Playback Device reverts from HDMI to Same as device used for audio playback necessitating accessing the Option menu every time I want to watch video after listening to music!

Is it possible to effectively 'hardware' the device so that when the HDMI display is switched on it will default back to it for Video?

It would be better to create a zone for each audio output, configure Options > Audio in each zone, and then pick "Same as device used for audio playback" with each zone.

Otherwise, you're disabling the JRiver audio engine.

Matt, Could you clarify as I'm sure many users will need a resolution to this issue when they take the plunge and start to use MC16 for video as well as audio.

Presently I have the Audio > HQ audio card and  Video > Advanced > Audio Playback Device>HDMI
To me this is equivalent to two zones but I'm guessing this is not what you mean and I do not see the Options >Audio in each zone in the menu structure.

I did look at the wiki site but that refers to using a special program for configuring multiple audio cards ?

Matt, Please cancel that request, after playing around with the zone function I can see what your proposing and will give it a try.

Matt, Has the full screen monitor select been moved in 145 it used to be in Player > Display Option >Fullscreen Monitor Select?

I have been forced to revert back to 128 as it appears the monitor select function is missing in 145 and detached monitor mode does not remember its setting after program restart :(

Aside from the aforementioned issues, utilising two zones makes a lot of sense so long as I can select the zone remotely at start up.  I can only find a Ctrl T toggle function presently which is not very helpful since I will never know the start up state.

Do you have any ideas how I can remotely set one of the two zones?

MC16.exe /MCC 10011, n

sets zone n for n = 0, 1, ...

Matt, Thanks for the pointer

Rick: Many thanks, the core commands look really powerful.

To think I have been a very long time user (for audio) and never new about zones and core commands

Thanks again guys, your help is much appreciated.
