Erroneous Insufficient Space for Disk Writer Message
« on: May 27, 2002, 04:13:03 am »

This is on the category of "Can anyone else duplicate this"

Setting the output to disk writer and pointing it to a drive with about 5Gb of free space I get a message,
"Disc writer requires 100Mb of free space to operate......"
and some other stuff about freeing up some space and trying again.

look and see where the temp dir is for MJ, if it is not on the 5gb drive letter that may be the problem.

also look in the temp folder and make sure it is not full.

also make sure the temp folder is not pointed at the root dir of a drive like "C:\"

Callithumpian,

You allocated 5GB.  Sometimes these systems will not tolerate that much free space.

Temp folder is on the same drive - hey like it's not like I have too many options - it's C:\Temp.

Disk Writer folder is C:\Music\Disc Writer.

I didn't "allocate" 5Gb, as such - that's just how much free space there is left on C: Drive

Hey Calli,

I also get the same error on my system with tons of free space.

Step to reproduce:

1] Setting -> Options then Playback Select Mode -> Disk Writer

2] Then click on Setting and select "Base Output Path" to a folder on the drive

3] Start playback

Error message " The disk Writer requires at least 100 Mb of disk space to operate ....Please etc"

immediatly followed by another error " Playback error etc "

I've tried different bit out but it does not matter. I always get the same error

Main drive is 40 Gb (15 Free), and secondary drive 120 Gb (90 free)

Callithumpian

>> Disk Writer folder is C:\Music\Disc Writer

Set to disk writer it writes the output to file, in wave format, including DSP settings.
This allows you to burn the crossfaded, gain equalised .wavs to audio CDs.

It was a much requested feature that I have never got to work right.
I had sort of given up but thought I should give it another go being RC an' all.

Winamp has a now very old plugin which works a treat.
You have to then feed that output through a WaveGain equaliser and then burn.

It would be real feather in the MJ cap if it could accomplish it in one step.
Even better would be the ability to burn audio CDs, including the DSP settings, straight up.

Do you mean me or Mark Farmer?

I am nice.  In fact it's what I'm known for - by those who know me.
But it's like the old saying - your real friends will always give it to you straight.

While my posts may be relentlessly candid, they are also polite, civil and strictly courteous if occasionally caustic.
Insult in my posts may be inferred, but it is never implied.
It's an interpretative thing and such interpretation can be coloured by an automatically defensive or overly sensitive posture.

Just calling it like I see it mostly.
I have no agenda for stirring people up, button pushing or any other nonsense.
I just want to be able to say what I really think, and if this feedback/support/interact organism is to achieve its full potential and reap maximum rewards for JRiver, which I hope it will, you would do well not only to encourage, but to insist that all other participants be similarly frank in their expressions.

Well, that well and truly evacuated the self-indulgence gland.
For today.

Callithumpian

I did not know that about the "disk writer" option.

I don't think i will ever use it however.

Have you tried burning without that option selected? and does your burn work without it selected?

Some of the above is civil.  It is occasionally caustic.  Inferred insult noted.

Let's talk by e-mail (jimh @ jriver.com).  Perhaps you'd like to start by telling me what I've done to earn your disdain.

We'll fix the disk space bug.

If anything else with the disk writer doesn't work, let us know.

I've used it to make a ton of cross-faded, DSP'ed CDs for my car, with no problems to speak of...

Thanks.
