android tablet as remote-is jriver for me?
« on: June 24, 2011, 08:03:20 pm »

I am new to this.

I think I want a cheap android tablet to remote control a PC for the purpose of selecting and playing music while sitting on the couch in my living room.

Audio quality is number one priority.

I don't want to connect via the internet or wifi. I want a cable to connect the tablet to the PC (usb?).

I won't be playing music off the internet, mostly ripped CDs.

Album art is not a huge thing for me, I just want to be able to navigate through the collection while sitting on the couch.

What are the options here? Tremote? Windows remote desktop? Some sort of VNC thing?

I use a rooted Barnes&Noble NookColor with the Gizmo Android app and it works great.  I love the sound quality but I am by no means an audiophile....

But I'm doing it wirelessly.  Not sure about using it while connected to the PC.

Yep, Gizmo is your friend.

My wife *loves* it when I start playing music from our home HTPC from my Gizmo at work  ;D

All of a sudden, she's listening to Barry White without actually doing anythng...

I'm sorry, the only time I want to play Barry White for my wife is when we're both in the same room, if you know what I mean....

And the only time I want to play him is when I'm NOT in the room :-D

But I see your point :-)

Yes.  It can be used as a remote.  When you connect, you can choose to play on the server or on the Android device.
