since my camera produces mov files i had always qt alt installed to play them via mc.. was never really happy with that, but it worked.. today i started to look at those files again wondering if i should update qt to see if i could get rid of the flickering of the playerbar and could get it well to my asio output. as a test i set mov to use the j. river video engine .. it downloaded something from the net. and.. well, it works. and i really had not expected that.. very nice. no flickering, asio etc.
so thanks a lot. you made one video illiterate happy today.

edit.. ofcourse mov was not the problem being a container and all.. but the M-JPeg that were in it.. and reading back this old thread
