Help getting 2.1 channel out spdif
« on: August 21, 2011, 03:36:38 pm »

DIYer's

I have been using JRiver for years and just noticed that it has the ability to split sub and stereo with time alighment and crossovers.

Can anyone tell me how to get this out to my dac, I built a custom dac pre and can add a sencond dac for the sub very easily. Receiver is an 8416 and the dac of choice is still the 4397.  I use the spdif right off the mother board and have several choices of sound cards, but all only have one spdif, current card is a heavily modded JULI@, digital section only.

Thanks inadvance for any insight.

I think your only option with S/PDIF if you want more than two channels is to output surround sound as Dolby Digital.  You can select this in DSP Studio > Output Format with Media Center.

You could get higher quality if you switched to HDMI or high quality analog.
