When browsing in "standard view" and an album is selected, the album details appear in the right-hand window. At the top of this window it has "[album] by [album artist]" and also "year" (see screenshot):



How can I change this info? In particular, I want it to have [genre] and [year] on the right hand side. I do not want to alter the node tree structure.

Two basic steps:

1) Create your own expression field (Tools > Options > Library & Folders > Manage Library Fields), and enter the expression that shows the desired fields and arrangement.

2) In your tab's File List pulldown, select Group By > More (sort ...) and select the name of the new field you just added.  I don't know how to right justify the date - this is being done internally by MC for the stock views.  Maybe someone can help with this portion.

Hmm... the tab's file list pulldown shows "sort by" but no "group by" as you mentioned. Obviously, there is no "more" submenu either.

That looks like a Categories view, and the Group By doesn't exist for that view type.  Create your own new view under Audio, but use a different view type such as Panes.

Ack! Now the node tree on the left is no longer listing album artists alphabetically ! When I go to "customise view" it says to show categories in this order:

Album artist [auto]
Album artist
Year - Album

Why is the list not in alphabetical order any more? Thanks

I don't want panes view - I just want the selection tree on the left, and the album details on the right.

Create a Panes view, and set the View Details: Panes: Dropdown.  This will hide the panes, but make them available in the Tabs.  Change your Group By as mentioned above.

Looks like you changed the sort order.  That's in the pull down in the tab.  Select the Sort order you want.  Hit F5 to refresh the tree.
