[request] import only the file I select, not the whole folder
« on: August 30, 2011, 04:31:35 pm »

When I "explore" to a folder on my system inside of MC, and select a single file, then click the "import" button, it imports everything in the folder, and takes a bit of time to complete.

I often just want to import the one (or a few) specific files, not everything.  Can the import function be changed to only act upon the selected files, as the rest of MC functions?

Sometimes I just want to import something quickly so i can tag it and move on; and sometimes this takes several minutes until the import is finished; if there are many files in the folder.

thanks

You could drag the file to MC or play it.

It shouldn't be slow.  Virus checker?  Or a million files?

Try instead, right-clicking the file and selecting Import to Library at the bottom of the context menu.

Yes, both of those methods would work, but not from within MC, those both need to be initiated outside of MC.

From within MC, if I click on the "Import Into Library" button, it seems to cause the auto-import function to apply to the entire folder, which I just don't want to happen.  It's not "slow" because of a virus checker or anything else; it's "slow" because it seems to be running the auto-import function, which just takes some time to scan the whole folder.

I'm asking if it can not import the whole folder when I click this button with individual files selected; instead to just act upon the file(s) selected in the window.

Try instead, right-clicking the file and selecting Import to Library at the bottom of the context menu.

That seems to import just that file, as I'd expect.  It's also not super fast, but that might be a function of doing it on a wireless connection vs. hard wired or on the machine that actually stores the files.

So, yes, this does what I was asking for (for the one file I was able to test; I'm not sure about doing it on multiple files, I don't have multiples that need imported right now)

Still, I think the button should only act upon selected files, since that's how the rest of MC works.

However, this solves my "issue", since I can force it to act on just the one file with the r-click import method; even if it's a couple extra steps.

Thanks again

Multiple files works.
