See reply # 5. Near the middle of the post are links to two screen shots, what works, and what causes MC 16 to crash when playing DVDs on my system.
I'd love to hear a rational explanation for this, it's almost as bad as having to keep your left foot off the floor when you launch the program on Tuesdays with odd numbered dates, except during even numbered months...
Oh, and I'm sure it's something I somehow managed to hose up in Windows, I doubt MC 16 is really causing the problem.
I started on MC 15 about a year ago and switched to 16 for Bluray playback. 16 looks great, sounds great, and Bluray playback is flawless. DVD playback looks fine also. I love it! OK end of rant...
I do have a problem though. I installed MC16, played a DVD & RO went looking for codecs, installed them, then played my DVD just fine. Next I played a Bluray. Again RO went and got what it needed, installed it, then played my small collection of Blurays just fine. After a busy couple of weeks, I sat down to watch a DVD and boom, the display screen initializes and I get the first screen cap below; MC 16 has a problem & needs to close. I tried other DVDs and the same for every one, MC crashes. Sometimes it plays a few ms of sound, sometimes it's silent, but it crashes on any of my DVDs.

All media is kept on a WHS v1 machine. The media is played from shares on my WHS using drives mapped to Music, Video, and Pictures shares. My DVDs are mostly ripped as main movies to folders with .IFO and VOBs.
After tinkering and experimenting (a lot, about 15 un-install/reinstalls) I have finally found the following sequence of events to be repeatable:
1) Bk-Up Library
2) Un-install MC16
3) Reboot
4) Re-install MC16
5) Restore Library
6) Play a DVD, RO (either std or HQ, they both do it) does its stuff and the DVD plays. Audio & video are fine.
7) Play a Bluray, again RO (both versions) does its stuff and the Bluray plays. Audio & video are fine.
8) Play any combination of waves, mp3s, internet radio stations, DVDs, or Blurays, everything works as it should.
9) Exit the program.
10) Open MC 16
11) Play audio file, no problem.
12) Play Bluray, no problem.
13) Play DVD, crash.
14) Re-open MC 16, play anything but a DVD, no problem.
15) Play a DVD, crash.
This problem happens with RO std, RO HQ, Hardware Acc on, or off, all four cases.
For what it's worth, DVD playback in MC 15 was fine through ASIO output with the EMU card. I used TMT3 for Bluray playback.
It actually appears to be a sound problem, at least quartz.dll v6.5.2600.5933 seems to be the faulting application. When I play a DVD with sound at the very beginning of the file, I'll hear a few milliseconds of sound before play back stops. The crash dialog is already on the screen.

https://picasaweb.google.com/lhwidget1/September32011#5648347924368672482I'm ready to look anywhere, and try anything, but I need people with way more technical experience than I have for guidance.
I have log files of a successful DVD playback and a DVD playback failure if needed.
Thanks for reading, and I hope to hear back soon.
