Intel Graphics hardware acceleration

Just for comparison, arcsoft media player seems to use the intel acceleration very well with around 25% cpu activity compared to around 60% and higher CPU activity with J river and Blu Ray content

I meant broken within RO, not in general. I was using DXVA within MC for quite a while before RO came along. Then I was fairly happy with just using CPU for decoding until I switched to a nVidia card.
Hendrik:
Which Intel CPU do you have?
Also, Intel only supports hardware accel on Vista/7, but considering that you had it working with ArcSoft, i assume you're running that.
DXVA with Intel is a bit complicated topic. One simple way is to just use Red October with additional filters, and use the MS DTV-DVD Decoder for H264 - this should at least get you HWAccel there.
The open-source DXVA decoders typically don't support Intel, because its a bit odd in its handling.
There are some new hardware decoders for Intel coming up, which may help the situation, at least on the last generation Intel CPUs (Sandy Bridge and newer, its unconfirmed if it actually works on older hardware as well).
Matt:
Red October will try to use DXVA for hardware acceleration with an integrated Intel GPU if you enable 'Hardware accelerate video decoding when possible'. You should see 'ffdshow DXVA decoder' in the graph if DXVA is in use.
With Sandy Bridge, the Intel drivers do not work well for hardware acceleration. There is distortion on many movies. Hopefully Intel will address this in their drivers at some point. It's not a big loss, since there are no real power savings (I measured at the wall with a 2500k) when using DXVA vs CPU decoding.
Blaine78:
I use intel i3 530 with windows 7. RO standard.
CPU usage running blu ray is easily hitting 70% and make no difference with hardware accel on or off. this is the graph with HA on. i must add that HA does work on arcsoft with around 20% CPU and never noticed any issues with quality playing blu ray

Matt:
If ffdshow DXVA isn't used, it means the DXVA filter didn't work.
I'm not sure what Arcsoft uses for decoding. It could be a custom decoder. You might be able to use the same decoder in Media Center by using Red October with additional filters.
