WASAPI Volume Control
« on: September 22, 2011, 08:32:05 pm »

Why when I use WASAPI and WASAPI Event Style does it still allow me to adjust the volume? I disabled the the volume in Media Center but I can still adjust the volume in control panel. I do give exclusive control to the hardware (I checked Both Options). This is not Bit perfect if it is still going through the volume mixer.

Volume can be adjusted without affecting whether it's bit perfect or not.

Controversial!

Jim, can you please explain your logic?

Thanks.

Yes, I get the difference between internal volume and system volume, but changing the internal volume (even when re-jigged to 64 bit) still isn't sending out the same bits out to the DAC (via SPDIF or HDMI or whatever) as the original source. It may be an *extremely* close approximation at a lower volume level than the source, and the difference inaudible, but it will never be bitperfect. Or will it?
