MCWS: How to play a non-library file?
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:24:09 am »

Hi, just started using JRiver and have to say I'm very impressed with the MCWS webservice APIs - very easy to use once you get the hang of it.   Something I can't work out though, is how to play files that aren't indexed in the MC16 library - e.g. a manually created ASX file for example.   I can do a PlayByKey or PlayByIndex for stuff that's in the library - how do I play something that isn't in the library, just on the file system?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi - just to update where I'm at: I've tried several other methods - I can do the following:

http://localhost:52199/MCWS/v1/Control/CommandLine?Arguments=/PlayReplace <filename>

and the file will play, but this brings up the Media Center window - I was trying to get this to work without interrupting the console user from their work.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Andrew

There's no way to do this right now.

I agree it would be a nice addition.

Thanks for the honest reply - sadly that kills the app that I was trying to develop with it :(
