This is a Release Candidate.  We're very close.  Maybe just days.

This time, if you report bugs, please let us know how serious you think they are.

bug: false accusation of trying to illegaly bypass licensing.

tried to connect from my second computer (using .280, not registered yet) to my server (still running .279, registered using my v7 license), both on local network... both times MJ.280 started flashing after some time, opened a IE window accusing me of trying to illegaly bypass licensing, something I never did. (one licened version, one trial period version involved.)

showstoper: yes.

I had two issues with 279. Haven't gotten an opportunity to install 280 yet.

They were

#1. When you hit Rip CD, then select Options, then File Directory. You get an Explorer Tree. You pick the folder to save files to. Then click OK, but the Main Jukebox window comes on top. You need to Alt Tab or select the Ripping windows from the taskbar.

#2. May be specific to my machine. MPEGplus internal encoder hangs. Makes it to maybe 70% of track 1, then doesn't nothing more. Cancel does not work at that point. My machine is a Pentium III 800EB MHz.

Darwyn, I've been posting the bug in your item #1 for several builds now.  You're the first user who's verified that behavior. I'd really like to see this fixed prior to release, as it's a potential source of confusion for users.

I am glad to see that Zevele made it to the BT list in the credits. He would say that he's not much help but we know better.
I am now called "Media Jukebox version 8 user" in the "Registered to:" box. I guess a generic somebody is better than nobody.
Really that's all I've got. If you want complaints about bugs, you're reading the wrong post.

Charlemagne, it may not display your name, but at least it says "version 8".  Mine still shows "version 7."

Shelly,
That should mean you have a version 7 license, which works with v8.

15. Fixed: Option "save folder structure" in CD burn dialog now works even if all files are in root dir.

Is there any way this options could be made available for hard drive based portables as well?

King, I've never reported this issue before and to my knowledge have always successfully downloaded and installed the most current build.  This isn't an issue in my mind at all, as I know my recently purchased v7 will still be good with v8.  Maybe I misunderstod Charlemagne, but thought it strange that his MJ would show that it's registered to a v8 user, when mine still shows v.7.  however, this is trivial in comparison to the real problems that need to be resolved.

if you have slidshow installed, and then uninstall it

when you go to play a song mj will tell you the visual plugin is not there.

in playing now it displays n\a, and it keeps giving you this message.

maybe when you uninstall it, the visual should be set to "None" and this will keep the user from getting a message he should not get.

small problem, but since i uninstalled (current version) slide show MJ does Not Crash MJ

King,Shelly is right ,i have also registered to 7.Not a problem to me

I want to tell a friend to have a try to MJ8
I saw that the link for "never installed 8.0' is a link to MJ 7.28
It is fine? And he  can uppdate to 8 from help-check for updates once 7.28 installed?

Authentication works for Media Server now, but I still can't play tracks with a "´" (decimal character 180) in the filename.  If you press STOP while the client is trying to get this file from the server, the client crashes.

Medium level problem.  I have a 3 or 4 dozen tracks out of 10,000 with this character but they tend to be concentrated on certain albums.  The Who/Live at Leeds has 4 tracks like this.  I'll probably just rename them.

I rode free through version 7 because I had purchased version 6. I bought Version 8 at the first beta. I couldn't run the alpha or I would have bought that. Actually, I TRIED to buy at the first beta but there were some "buy button" issues. Didn't take long to work it out though. I'm sure I'll buy version 10 if I get to ride through version 9. Maybe I'll buy version 9 on general principles. I really like these people and want them to succeed.

While in TV Tuner mode if you're viewing the Intro, TV Guide or Yahoo TV and re-size anything in MJ the view will automatically return to Display. Probably not too serious.

Hi,

The latest version does not seem to read CD-Text.
Don't know which was the last version that did,
as I have not checked this feature for a while.
Other apps read CD-Text from the same CD-ROM.

While adding songs (apes) to burn list,
the whole list got the shakes.  Had to
close NJ with a 3 finger salute.

Here are a couple of minor bugs/issues that have been around for a bit:

1. The song/artist on the player window only scroll when the mouse cursor is over the tree view or player window.

2. When dragging items from the Media Library list to the CD burner in the tree, the Media Library list re-sorts and jumps back to the top. Also, the drop target changes to the CD Burner.

3. On my machine, I get a very long pause when selecting the CD burner in the tree (every time).

4. When doing a media import, the drop target changes to Recently Imported (this may be normal, but I don't like it too much).

5. When playing a viz under "Cycle" mode, the vis name reported on the information bar is "n/a". In my opinion, it should say "Cycle".

All for now,

Ok, Tunning Win XP PRo, Installed MJ.  Later installed network printer driver.  Everytime I go to the CD Labeler program it says I don't have a printer installed and if I try to install it it doesn't stick.  Next time I run CD Labeler same problem.  I have deleted and reinstalled and reloaded the printer driver.  Other apps print fine.  Didn't have this problem under Win 2k.  I feel the labeler is one of the best aspects of the program.  Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

I'm having a device recognition issue with this release that I didn't have before...

Drive D is a TDK VeloCD 241040B Burner
Drive E is a Acer DVD/CD reader
Drive F is a Sony CRX-175A Burner

Drive E is now showing as a burner in the navigation tree and the dropdown in the CD Writer Settings dialog shows the Sony twice as drive E and F as well the TDK as drive D.

I can actually send files to device "CD Burner(ENext Page" and if I select the device in the tree it will show the files queued to "E: SONY CD-RW CRX175A" but any attempt to actually write failes for the drive not being ready regardless of the actual state of either drive E or F.

So far, this appears cosmetic.  I can write to drives D and F fine and I can read from all 3.  I did notice that my device settings all reverted back to "use generic driver" with this release.  Not sure if that's related.

If this is just cosmetic, it's a low priority but I'm not sure if it's an indication that something else might be wrong.

Separately, but maybe related... I'm getting a "Failed to find any CD-R/W devices on your system" message on both my laptops when trying to play a CD.  If I click OK, I can go on and play the CD.  Both played fine on earlier releases.

1. I have no CD Writer installed on my System. When I have selected "CD, DVD, & Handheld" in the navigation tree and then select any other item in the navigation tree, I get the message "Error: Failed to find any CD-R/W devices on your system". This is a little bit annoying, especially when ripping many CDs. Please add an option to keep the message from appearing. Show stopper: no

2. Plugin page: on the web the pda plugin is listed with Version 3.0.5 but MJ keeps reporting 3.0.4 after download. MJ crashes when no pda is installed and you accidentally navigate to the "Windows CE" tree item.

In my system, since a few builds, the playback time counter is updated rather irregularly: it even stops for a few seconds. I've checked for other concurrent activities, rebooted, and even disabled the antivirus program, but the problem is still present. The playback is regular.

CRITICAL PROBLEM!

Burning CD - goes through preparing CD and normalizing. Everything OK so far.

When it starts to record what it has just prepared, MJ goes wild; switching drives several times, then switching again - analyzing devices, and I really don't know what all. I'm shocked! First time anything like this has happened to me.

A very small bug that's been plaguing me ever since the first time I registered the version 8 beta.  Check this out:

Media Jukebox PLUS N/A

CPU: AMD Athlon 805 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 102 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows 98 SE

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 5.50.4807.2300
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000

wnaspi32.dll: 4.60 (1021) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-1999 Adaptec, Inc.
Aspi32.sys: N/A

Note that I only installed version 7, but never registered it.  Before installing the beta, I uninstalled version 7.  I tried uninstalling version 8 then reinstalling, to no avail.  Can anyone figure out why the version listed is "N/A"?

Thanks,

Bill

New with this build as the last song in a playlist is ending I'm getting a message in the Vis screen that says "Media Jukebox cannot play visualisations with this file type.......". Seems to not realize thst it's playing the last one in the list and is looking for another that's not there.

PhdSM,
Do you have an older build of Album View installed on your system? Crashing while scrolling in MJ was a problem a couple of AV builds back.  Rhino has since added an option to disable mousewheel support, if needed.

Serious bug (for me): Digital-secure ripping woes with my Dell-supplied CDROM (Lite-On LTN486 48x Max) remain in this build.   Here's a summary:

1. Digital-secure worked fine with MJ 7.2

2. Under MJ 8 (every build since I started with  8.0.265), digital-secure fails almost always; Message is: "failed to read sector _; Incorrect Function".

3. Ripping works in modes other than digital-secure, but they are not reliable (e.g., comparing with EAC) so my practice is to use digital-secure always (I use APE exclusively and want every bit right).  Drive is set to IDE (it's on my secondary IDE channel), which is also what it's set to if I use auto-config.

4. Digital-secure DOES work, albeit extremely slowly, if I simultaneously play a track from the same CD; not practical, but cool and an important piece of data.

5. If I set the drive to ASPI, digital-secure works much of the time (but not always).

thanks for your advice to un/reinstall MJ, did that and the problem seems to be gone, no more flashing, no more warning about illegal licensing bypassing... at least so far, only did a few more tests.

Please start a thread on your problem.  It may be configuration not an MJ bug.  Someone reported that the Adaptec version of ASPI worked better for them.  Take a look at threads from the last week and you should find it.
