Can't Turn Off - Two Second Gap Between Tracks
« on: March 21, 2003, 03:33:14 am »

Greetings - For I don't know how many builds now I have noticed that I cannot operate the "Add Two Second Gap Between Audio Tracks" button within the "CD WRITER SETTINGS" option.

It this just my localised problem, or is this a common problem, or has this feature been locked ON for some reason?

As it is it means that Media Jukebox cannot be used when burning a copy of a Live album, as currently it is inserting a 2 second gap between every track & this is NO GOOD for a Live album.

Any info would be appreciated.

Kindest regards - Rusty

Media Jukebox 8 has two burning "engines" in it. One engine has specific drivers for each model of burner and requires an Aspi layer on the computer, the other is "generic" and will support most any burner model.

The "drive specific" burner uses "disk-at-once" mode which can burn without the 2 second gaps. The generic burner uses "track-at-once" mode which always places a 2 second gap.

To make a long story shorter, either your burner model is not supported by the "drive specific" engine, or you are on WinXP/2000/NT and don't have an aspi layer installed (or both). Therefore MJ is using the generic burner and you get stuck with the 2 second gaps.

Post your system info and we may be able to figure out which problem you have. Our new Media Center 9 which is now in beta testing eliminates the above problems. It's not completely stable yet but getting close.

Update:
Took a second look at your post. If it worked for you in the past, maybe the problem is as simple as unchecking the "use generic driver" checkbox.

Thanks John T for replying ... I really appreciate it.

My info is:

Media Jukebox PLUS 8.0.396
Install Path: D:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 496 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 96 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1145
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

I did a check using Adaptec's ASPI checker & it said I had Version 4.71.2, but I also noticed that the wording at the bottom was greyed out e.g.

"ASPI is properly installed & fully operational" ... So I can only assume that there is some sort of conflict here between Adaptec's ASPI & that which I assume comes as part of Windows XP & that Adaptec's is not active!

I cannot access either of the two boxes within the "CD WRITER SETTINGS", both the "Use Generic Driver" & "Add Two Second Gap"  boxes are greyed out with "X" in them.  Currently the "Use Internal ASPI Layer box is checked & active.

My burner is a Sony CRX-175E (24x10x40)

I have also noticed that in the "DEVICE SETTINGS" option, if I try to set the read speed to say (x4) or anything, it is just ignored when using this burner/player drive & it just merrily rips away at any speed it seems to want.

I really do appreciate any help you can offer on this one & would love to go to MC as soon as it is more stable.

P.S - I also find I often have to re-login to Interact quite often & I always have the "Always stay logged in" box ticked.

Rusty.

Unfortunately I'm experiencing the same problems.

Aspi 4.71 installed, aspi check seems okay.
'Use generic driver' checkbox is greyed out, as well as the 'add two seconds gap' checkbox.

Could it be XP's built in burning software causing a problem? You guys should turn it off.

10-27

edit: To turn off XP burning do the following...

Right click on the My Computer icon and select properties.
Find your RW drive and right click on icon. Select Drive properties.
Go to the Recording tab and uncheck "Enable CD recording on this drive"
Reboot
