Dumb drobo question
« on: October 23, 2011, 01:28:10 am »

I'm thinking of buying a drobo DR04DD10 to store my music. In reading reviews some people reported that their media players had trouble seeing the drobo. Is anyone else using MC with a drobo and are you seeing any issues?

I imagine if there was a problem it would have shown up in a forum search, but I'd like some confirmation before I spend what is a lot of money for me. Thanks.

I think glynor said something about it in the last month.  You could read his recent posts.

I don't use any of ours with MC (they're all connected to Macs).

We've never had any issue with them though.  If I plug one into one of my windows machines, it just shows up like any other USB hard drive.

They aren't fast.  I mean, faster than your average USB thumb drive, but don't expect mind-blowing fast RAID-like speeds.  I'd probably keep my library files on a local disk and just use the Drobo for media file storage.

I suspect any people reporting trouble were trying to use them as a NAS.  I've had trouble with that myself, and even the one we have that has the networking support built-in, we no longer use that way.
