I think it would time to enable WAV & AIFF tagging by default.

I have not seen any reports of problems with these tags, but I have seen several reports of missing WAV tags (because the users were not aware of this option). AIFF tagging is always enabled in iTunes and most recently foobar2000 has added WAV tagging to the latest version: http://www.foobar2000.org/changelog

If you decide to change the default remember to also edit the Wiki page accordingly. My suggestions (additions) in red:

By default, this capability is disabled in Media Center 14-16 because, while WAV & AIFF tags are written in a standards-compliant way, not all software supports the tags. In Media Center 17 this option is enabled by default because even though other players may not be able to read the tags no playback compatibility problems have been reported.

You can enable or disable WAV & AIFF tagging in Media Center by doing the following:

• In the main program menu, select Tools > Plug-in Manager...
• Then, in the tree select Input > WAVE & AIFF Plugin
• Click 'Configure'
• Enable or disable the option 'Write tags to WAVE/AIFF files (may not be compatible with all players)
• Also, be sure to set 'Update tags when file info changes' in Options->General->Importing & Tagging.

I just added lots of tags and embedded a 1.6 MB cover art image to a wave file and tried many Windows players. I didn't hear any problems (like a click in the end of the file), though I wonder if large embedded cover art could be a problem with some portable or DLNA player devices. Maybe you could run compatibility tests with some HW player devices (I guess you have a few for testing).

I saw a mention elsewhere of problems with some Linux audio libraries interpreting tags in WAV files as audio content with audible problems. 

One or both of these libraries would be linked with player software such as Music Player Daemon (MPD) which is used in the Bryston BDP-1 player.  A stripped Linux running MPD is becoming a popular building block for packaged audiophile players.  (Auriliki is another brand.  That developer has enough Linux computer savvy to respond to inquiries about the potential problem.)

Before you make WAV tags the standard, you might see whether there are problems with current Linux audio library versions.  The ComputerAudiophile.com guy might be a good start since he has reviewed the Bryston and perhaps the Auriliki players.

Seems like MPD was fixed in March 2009. Actually, only the ID3v2 tag reading problem was described. No audio problem was even mentioned.
