High school physics tricks?
« on: November 08, 2011, 07:04:30 pm »

I need some high school level physics tricks. Things like: get a match to stand upright in a bowl of water (inch or two deep). Light the match, invert a glass over the match, and watch the water level rise when the match goes out.

Yaobing? Any ideas?

Thanks

John

Some good ones there.

This site has links to a lot of great resources for science teachers (which I used to be):

Imagine looking for this information 10 years ago. How things have changed...

Youtube Cadbury Julius Sumner Miller.

They used to have great commercials back in the 80s with this sort of stuff.

One of my favorite demonstrations that I showed my students was Bernoulli balls (listed on IOP Institution of Physics page linked by brossmac).  I used a Shop Vac with hose plugged in the blowing hole instead of a hair dryer.

Youtube Cadbury Julius Sumner Miller.

I taped some of his demos from PBS.  May still have that VCR cassette somewhere in the garage.
