Or if non exists maybe JRiver could make one.....

Where we could discuss music, movies and our favorite media program.

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=63997.0

I know I'm in the Social Media game and therefore have a vested interest, but that kind of thread smacks of not understanding the potential of what social media (Facebook & Twitter especially) can do for businesses and / or a lack of understanding of how to leverage it properly.

Just as a couple of quick examples -

There are 67,500 Facebook members interested in Home Theater PC or Home Cinema.
There are 165,000 who are interested in the terms Audiophile, Hi Fidelity or High End Audio.
These people can be targetted specifically in Facebook.

XBMC has a Twiiter account with some 7000+ followers.

Social media is one of the most powerful marketing tools a business (especially an online focussed one like JRiver) can have if used properly.

imugli do you know what the age break down is for people who use facebook or others?

I would figure the older you are the lower the usage would be.

I do have a facebook account, but don't use it.

I did find an old girl friend on facebook (I never dated her, but she wanted to date me)

the first thing she asked was "Why would someone I have not heard from in 30+ years be contacting me now".

that was the last I heard from her.

Hi KingSparta,

For the most part you are correct in your assumption.

Global Usage Stats show the following -

18 - 25 y.o - 25.8%
26 - 34 y.o - 26.1% (slight bump)
35 - 44 y.o - 14.9%
45 - 54 y.o - 8.0%
55 - 64 y.o - 4.6%

as of March this year.

Source: insideFacebook.com via http://www.kenburbary.com/2011/03/facebook-demographics-revisited-2011-statistics-2/

However in the US it is more skewed to 18 - 25 y.o (about 30% of users, with another 10% being 13 - 17).

The mistake people make is dismissing it as a powerful marketing tool because of this. Even 14.9% of 850 million users is still 126 million users.

TBH I would have waited to see if that girl (woman) contacted you first. 30 years is a long time and you've probably sent her catatonic knowing her long lost love is now only a Facebook "Poke" away  ;D

I see, I wonder what it will be in 5 or 10 years, the percent for the older users may go up a tad.

per your stats, there is hardly anyone my age using social media sites.

per your stats, there is hardly anyone my age using social media sites.

Only a measly 60 odd million (even if you're in the bottom percentage group).  :)

As an individual, you may not know many of those 60 million around the world, but as a business selling an online download of software, that's still a pretty big audience - even when broken down and micro-targetted.

I must say it really does dumbfound me that JRiver doesn't have a presence...

We do.  It's called Interact.

If we were smarter, we'd do more I guess.

I never used Facebook much.  I closed my account a few months ago.  There is a lot chatter there, but it didn't have much value (for me).

Whatever happened to the Johnny River account I created some years ago for Facebook uploads testing?

Granted, as a personal tool it may not hold much value to you, but as a company, when you think that your competition in XBMC has 18000 fans, posting their setups, commenting and sharing (and this being seen by all of their friends), it quickly becomes pretty compelling.

http://www.facebook.com/xbmc

On top of the above people interested in Audiophile, High end audio etc. some 47,000 (from Aus, US, UK, France, Germany and Canada) have an interest in XBMC, Boxee or VLC Media Player.

These people can all be targetted directly.

I agree with Imguli.  Opportunity's being missed here.
Round here I think the number of 40+ facebookers is a lot higher.  Practically everyone I know is on it.
I also find the advertising on Facebook to be some of the most clever and well targeted I've ever seen.
