Gizmo and caching files to hide/help sketchy coverage?
« on: November 28, 2011, 05:04:31 pm »

I just spent way too much time driving, and was using Gizmo to stream my music to my phone while driving on I-35.  It worked pretty well, but I had several instances of it taking several seconds to start the next song, or would just stop during a song, and sometimes it would just stop altogether.  I'd wait a minute or 2, then check the phone to see I was on the bus, and had to restart playback.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to stretch the "playback from memory" functionality to include storing 5-10 minutes of upcoming streaming to the local phone/device memory, so when my coverage isn't so good, it's still got something to fall back on?

When coverage/signal improves, it can refill the buffer, but would stream more seamlessly during sketchy connections.

If my quick math is close, 10 minutes of 320kb mp3 files would only take about 25 MB, which most everyone would have space for I think.
