I am using MC17 media network to share audio libraries with my friend.

Conneting to my friend's server and playback his audio library,

1. It always seems to convert the source to 320k mp3 format regardless of source format.
Is this normal? or Am I missing somthing?
Is there any way to playback the server source as it is?

2. In the case of multi-channel sources like 5.1ch DTS WAV files (16bit 44.1k),
MC client won't playbck giving the error message of "Something went wrong with playback."
Strangely, however, MC does playback 5.1ch FLAC files (24bit 88.2k) as client, of course as 320k MP3 format.

Please help me to understand the audio streaming process in MC17 media netwoking.

Thanks in advance.

Let's start here.

Are you using Library Server, or DLNA?

Go to Tools > Options > Media Network, and then:

if Library Server, Client Options (when connected to a Library Server) > Audio Conversion.

if DLNA, Add or Configure DLNA servers... > Audio and set Conversion: Never  or Convert unsupported formats

The opinions I express represent my own folly.

I am using Generic DLNA under win7 64bit and I have already tried the options you mentioned ablve.
Neither 'Never' nor 'Convert unsupported formats' did NOT work on 5.1ch DTS WAV files.

For your info, I tried various 'enconding options' like uncompressed, mp3, etc. but it never works

I think the problem solved...
I got a hint from your advice and checked the my 'Client Options' configuration.

Here is how to streaming the sever audio files as they are:
- In DLNA sever configuration, set audio conversion to 'Never' and ending to 'uncompressed'
- In Client options configuration, also set the same as above.

Now I, as a client, can stream the sever audio files as they are including both multi-channel DTS and HD audio files.

Thanks for your help.
