Playback memory question

Has Playback memory been increased from 256MB to 1GB? "Audio Playback Options" under wiki says 256MB? I just received email that says 1GB.  Please clarify. Thanks!

Hopefully the amount of memory used with be selectable, so people with memory challenged systems can still use memory playback. Maybe in increments of 256K.
