search on txt content?
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:23:30 pm »

I just did a search and observed MC found txt files with the search item inside the file.

I was not aware that MC searched the content of txt files.

Is this true?

Does MC search content of any other file types?

It's true.

By default, search looks inside the document (txt, rtf, html) by using the 'Text' field.

Wow. Learn something new every day.

Is this a new feature? If yes, do I need to re-import old txt files?

I ask because I have 1600 txt files in my library totally 176 MB and the size of "field (text).jmd" is only 10 MB so something does not add up.

I've mentioned in the past that audiobooks need a little love for displaying info in associated txt files. The fact that search uses this data will make this feature doubly nice if it ever gets implemented. At the same time we should look at extending this idea to the mht file type which is excellent for saving web sourced info about media.

it has been there for quite a while, so i dont think you need to reimport (you could update library from tags), maybe you have some textfiles with "wrong" encoding..but that is just a guess..also MC compress quite hard so the figures may look wrong, when they are actually not.

but to check, add expression length([text]) and sort..(and maybe combine that with math() and file size, ) you will then see if there are something wrong..

Large text values are compressed in the JRiver database.
