Volume control when playing :THERE
« on: January 03, 2012, 10:38:47 am »

Hi everyone. Love this product!

I like to run MC on my laptop to control my HTPC. I wish to play music residing on the server and output on that server. When I select the server's library I notice that I cannot adjust the play volume (does nothing.)

I suppose the WebRemote is an acceptable way to acomplish what I want but it would be nice to do above.

Thanks for any tips!

Welcome to the forum.  Try switching volume among the several options.  Click on the little speaker icon in the upper left to begin.

Thanks. Volume works fine in WebRemote.

Running the actual MC on the client though the volume slider does move but does NOT affect the actual volume. I am using WASAPI mode on the server.

?

Thanks

There are a few ways to control the machine from a client, so I want to make sure I understand which method you're using.

Are you connecting to the Library Server (HTPC) from the client, as in loading the server's library?  Or are you just browsing to the HTPC under 'Playing Now' and controlling it with DLNA?

Thanks.

Hi Again. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the 2 different scenarios.

All I have done is:

a) Enabled "Use Media Network to share...." on the HTPC

b) On the client I have loaded the HTPC's library (using access key)

c) The HTPC does not have MC itself open only the Media Server application.

d) I attempt to play any track via There: Here and use the volume slider upper left but it does nothing.

e) If I close MC on my client PC the music continues to play so this should confirm we aren't streaming to client then back to HTPC for playing.

Any ideas? Do you want me to try without using WASAPI?

What I am doing now is employing a bit of Windows wizardry, a modified RDC and using MC as a seamless remoteapp, this works flawlessly ;) but would still like to know about above...

Thanks again!

OK now I see what happens.

If you run MC on the client, and all you do is go AUDIO... right click and play There: Here then you will not be able to adjust the volume. There: Here must be activated from Playing Now in order to adjust the volume!

Thanks!
