Well, my HD went south on me last week and I lost lost an awfull amount of stuff.  I got a new HD and reinstalled Windows 98.
Now when I try to launch the MJ updates, I get the "Installwizard" pop-up informing of an illegal operation.
I was able to get MJ 8.0.180 to install, but the illegal op aborts any attemp to update to the latest ver.  

The fault details are:
INSTALLWIZARD caused a general protection fault
in module at 0000:824df14b.

If I try to check for updates from MJ, I get the packageinstaller illegal op.

Uninstall, get the latest version from our downloads page (full version), then update from the latest thread here (slightly newer).  Should work.

Ya know, as many times as I've read about people having problems installing Mj, and being told to uninstall and reinstall the latest version, you would think that I would try it myself, eh?

Case Study:

When I was In Nco School (in germany) We took tests, and we failed or came close to failing. we started going to the guesthouse (bar) and when we went there we noticed that our test scores went up. so before the test we always went to "Moms" she was 89 then (she had her birthday when we was there). after we figured that out we went there everyday. not for the test scores but to put up with the NCO's running the school. since i was the platoon sgt the whole time i was there for our class i had to drink more than my men.

One more thing....
When I pop a new CD in the drive, it can't connect to the CDDB.  I get a window saying, "Couldn't Get ICDDBC Control interface for ICDDBC Control."

Any ideas? (and please don't say uninstall and reinststall)

how about just reinstall the full version of MJ8 then the latest update in the forum and see if that helps..

if not i have a longer list of things you can try.
