Volume Protection

Hmm -- this is new. Reading this thread brought to light that the speaker icon at the top left corner of the screen is clickable. Clicking on it shows a new menu item Volume Protection which I've not seen before... searching the forums (via forum search) yields nothing. Any clues to what it does?
