[SEMI SOLVED] Importing
« on: December 31, 2011, 05:22:33 pm »

Hi guys, on importing, be that in MC16 or 17 when running auto import I get this message:

Quote
Skipped 6 files previously deleted from library.
Skipped 62 files previously determined to be bad.

How can I stop MC from excluding those files and try again?
How can I find out which files it is skipping?

Thanks

MrC, thanks for your quick answer.

Data first, I am mainly on licensed MC16, trying out 17 (each time a new beta comes out I do a fresh 17 install).

The problem we are dealing with here is the SAME for both. The 17 database wase carried over from 16, but the 16 database is an original 16 made db, I reinstalled ALL my PC 6 months ago and rebuilt the complete audio, image and video database.

I tried the smartlist suggestions you pointed me to. I STILL GET THIS BOTH IN MC16 and MC17:

Quote
Library now has 58480 files. Search and update took 0:03.

Imported 0 new files.
Skipped 62 files previously determined to be bad.
Updated 4 files that had external changes.

The smartlist is:

Quote
[Media Type]=[Video],[Audio],[Image] ~d=rb

I tried with audio only, video only, image only and all combinations. Same result: After autoimport the smart list remains EMPTY

You wont see in auto import results any skipped files now because I discovered casually a folder with ringtones in the file list that did not exist any more. But the smartlist I had created with the ~d=r option did NOT show anything either

As you see it is kind of difficult finding 62 "bad" files in a list of 58480.
First, the prompt bothers me.
Second, most bad files I can fix, for example I had an wmv file that MC would not play it gave me an "Failed to connect Audio decoder to source/splitter" that I converted to mkv using xilisoft video converter, and now MC plays it. THAT IS MY IDEA WITH "Bad files" detected by MC, and maybe some samples could be of use for you to fix bugs.... if other player plays the file... MC should ;D

ANY IDEAS PLEASE 8) I really want to find those "bad" files  ;)

AnyOne ?

Change your smartlist to exactly this:

  ~d=b

You can paste it via the Import/Export button.

What are the results?

The same:

Code: [Select]
Library now has 58648 files. Search and update took 0:06.

Imported 0 new files.
Skipped 62 files previously determined to be bad.
Updated 4 files that had external changes.

Well, no answers that can shed some light on this....

Maybe there is a way to "purge" or "clean" or "validate" database?  I am guessing this is 1 of 2:

1- there ARE bad items and MC has no way to show them
2- there are NOT any bad items and it is a database problem?

just guessing in the darkness....uhhhh

help?

Please try MrC's advice about using exactly ~d=b as the smartlist.  Then do 'Update Library (from tags)' or remove the bad files.

I wish someone or I had an answer for you, but probably at this point one of the devs will have to step in.

If you've looked at the Bad database, and it is empty, I don't understand how MC could indicate:

Skipped 62 files previously determined to be bad.

since it is the Bad DB that maintains these records.

The current implementation of the Bad database feels like a parent sending a child to the corner for no clearly defined cause.  "Bad files... BAD!".  (but this is probably just my perverse psychology run amok.)

The files are probably of media type data.  Using ~d=b (without extra rules) should show these files.

Did that already.

I keep getting the result mentioned above, both in MC 16 (licenced) and MC 17 (test)
The only thing I think I can do es RE DO the entire database, I mean erase it completely and import everything again. aaaarrrghhhhhhh

How should that be done .... or (hope, pleasae, hope) wait till somebody has an idea before doing that kind of surgery?? :o

note that mc keeps importing "4 files that had external changes" also.... that happens even if I run autoimport 2 times in row without modifying media files.... ¿maybe they are some system files???

WAITTTTT: please what do you mean by  "'Update Library (from tags)'". Can you give me a step by step ?

I must be dumb, but I can't find the item or menu "Update Library (from tags)"
I created the smartlist and ran autoimport.... and get:

Code: [Select]
Library now has 58648 files. Search and update took 0:06.

Imported 0 new files.
Skipped 62 files previously determined to be bad.
Updated 4 files that had external changes.

Hmmm, I'm not convinced.  Your smartlist should look like the attached image.  You'll see I have a tree of smartlists which show the contents of various MC databases.  Shown is the one for the Bad database.  Can you share your screenshot?

OK NOW WE ARE TALKING

My smart list was: [Media Type]=[Video],[Audio],[Image] ~d=b

Now it is ONLY ~d=b

creating it is NOT very intuitive. Let me see the files and I will be back...

just did update library from tags.... (they are all flac files) am re importing now ....

Code: [Select]
Library now has 58711 files. Search and update took 3:00.

Imported 0 new files.
Updated 4 files that had external changes.

OKAYYYYYYY, imported the "bad" files OK. They ALL play OK.

Now, WHY in first place were they marked BAD??

The 4 files that show external changes are jpg that open ok, I re opened them with xnview saved overwriting but they keep showing up

Ideas?

AND THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS  :) :) :)
