The King is Dead. Long Live the King. (MC17 is Stable)
« on: January 18, 2012, 02:57:42 pm »

We changed the default download to Media Center 17.0 today.

http://www.jriver.com/download.html

Consider it stable and safe to use.  Here's part of the next newsletter:

"JRiver Media Center 17.0 has now reached the Stable stage and has replaced MC16 as our recommended download.  It's safe for anyone to install and use.

"When you install MC17, it will find and convert your old library and user settings from MC16 or MC15.  If you use an earlier version, MC17 can convert your library, but not your user settings.

"If you purchased MC16 after October 1, 2011, you received an MC17 license, so you can just download MC17 and install it.  There will be no charge to upgrade and no new license to install.  Search for e-mail from buybutton at jriver if you are unsure of the date.

Under the Media Center 17 subforum it still says, "Latest beta version of MC." I think i should now say "Stable version of JRiver."

Yay!  Now we have an easy, un-equivocated answer to the occasional "Is it Stable/Why is it Beta?" questions.

Also... It has been "stable" for a long time.  I don't know that I saw more than a build or two that I'd call "flaky" during the whole process so far.
