Subtitles default to external .Srt
« on: January 18, 2012, 06:25:46 am »

Hi,

Is it possible with MC17, turn On the Subtitles and defaults to external .Srt (obviously with the same name as the .mkv file)?

Thanks

Does Options > Video > Subtitle mode help?

I'm not sure SRT files always have a language (unless it's part of the filename), so it might not be enough.

I've wondered if we should have an option to always show sidecar subtitles if they exist.  Thoughts?

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the SRT files doesn't have language specified usually. So the options you kindly suggests doesn't help.

By now, the only option that I found to achieve this, is to do it individually for every movie at play time, which is of course, a bit unpractical, in particular for the rest of the family (wife ;-)).

In a coming build:
Changed: Sidecar subtitles with no language specifier are used automatically if the video has no other embedded / forced subtitles (unless subtitles are turned off in Options > Video).

Hi Matt,

While is still great that you have added this new setting, it doesn't quite solve the situation. The majority of my films are imported (UK/US), so my rips do have embedded subtitles for other foreign languages. What I usually do is after the rip I add a SRT file for my national language.

As is, I still get by default no subtitle. I have to individually select it for the external SRT, which is unfriendly for my wife and kids. Is it possible to add a setting, that always default for the external SRT? That would be much appreciated.

Makes sense.

So the option to _always_ use a sidecar subtitle if it's there and nothing has been previously selected for the file would be ideal?

Thanks.

Thanks

In a coming build:
NEW: Added a subtitle mode (Options > Video) that shows a sidecar when it's found, regardless of other settings. (mode: Show subtitles only if selected subtitle language is different from audio language, or if subtitles are in a sidecar file)
