Android, Gizmo, and Ice Cream Sandwiches. Not a good combo.
« on: February 28, 2012, 01:11:40 am »

I have been trying to use Gizmo on my Asus Transformer Prime tablet (running Android Ice Cream Sandwich latest build 4.1) but with only limited success. I can easily access and play all my music from 1 HTPC with no issues, no lags, and no freezes. It works almost flawlessly. But when I attempt to play a movie Gizmo will play about 1 or 2 seconds (if that) then freeze. Nothing. The screen either just turns white, or the jwplayer appears and then freezes after a few frames. I've tried selecting different conversion rates but to no avail.

Now when I use Gizmo on my Android phone running Android 3.2.1 I can play all my music and movies just fine.

Could this be an issue with the latest Android build? Or is Gizmo broken? I've also tried accessing my PC's using my iPad 2 but I've not been able to watch anything on it at all. All I get when I browse my movies and select one to play is a message saying "Safari cannot download this video". Download?!? I've all but given up.

Now on another HTPC of mine that also has movies on it I cannot play any movie at all on either my phone or tablet. I can browse the library just fine, but when I select a movie for playback I get this message: "Video not found: http://192.168.1.77:52199/WebPlay/MCWS/v1/File/GetFile.flv?File=71&Conversion=26&Start=Token=QeqZEyW1"
I have no idea what this means. Obviously it did find the file since it shows up un the library view, and I can play it on my other HTPC upstairs running MC17 as a NAS, but it won't play play on Gizmo. What am I doing wrong?

I also have issues with Gizmo and video playback in ICS.  Mine will play, but the audio is out of sync.

Being that Gizmo is an official and integrated extension of MC it would be nice if  JRiver would chime in and officially leave word

I don't know.  If it works on one device, but not another, it's probably the actual player (not Gizmo).  It's possible, but not likely, that it's the version of Android.

Thanks for your response Jim.

I don't know what could be wrong. It's the same HTPC being accessed by 2 different versions of Android on 2 different devices running the same Gizmo app.

All my HTPC's are hardwired on Cat-6 cable and on gigabit network switches. My wireless in a very beefy Wireless-N network. I'm running the latest stable builds of MC. I can access every HTPC (and MC) on my network from any other HTPC (running MC) and play back every one of my movies and music. But on 1 HTPC only music is accessed in Gizmo and movies play for a few frames and then freeze, and on the other HTPC I can browse my movies but on playback in Gizmo I get the error about file not found! How can Gizmo see the movie and allow me to browse them, but not actually find the file?

I'm lost.

Using MP3 instead of AAC for the audio seems to fix the lip-sync in video troubles with Ice Cream Sandwich.

I have to do some more testing to figure out the best way to proceed.

BTW, if you need me to test anything on my end let me know. I'd be glad to help solve this.

Try updating Gizmo.  We just fixed a video problem.

You'll need the new build of Media Center for the lip-sync fix.

Hopefully it'll be out in a few days.

I downloaded Gizmo from the Android market. Do you want me to download it again from the market or do you have an alternate location?

Nice to hear that something is going on with this. :)

I myself have the Asus transformer Prime and i have the problem of getting video and audio out of sync.

Sadly i have returned my Prime due to bad wifi experiance so i can't test it. I will however get a new Prime next week hopefully without any wifi problems.

The asus Prime is shipped with android 3.0.2 and i will test gizmo on that before i upgrade again to ICS to see if there is any difference.
