Get TV Series Info for DVD Rips
« on: February 04, 2012, 01:15:52 pm »

At present there doesn't appear to be a way to get TV-Series Info for files that are DVD rips.

Do you have the media sub type set as "TV Show"?

DVD rips of shows are tricky, because the disc is the entry in the library instead of episodes.  But episodes are the things you look up.

We've been brainstorming about a way to expand an aggregate like a DVD so that individual titles could have metadata.  However, I don't think this will happen soon.

I can see how it would be difficult for standard video DVD's.

However for data DVD's, eg. a disc which has 24 S1E1.avi, 24 S1E2.avi, Frasier S1E1.mkv etc...which are tagged properly why can't MC get the info? It works for data DVD's of movies at the moment but not for TV shows.

I have hundereds of DVD rips of TV Shows. Works okay for me. But maybe the difference is that I have all my DVD episodes (for each Series) copied to a single folder. Each episode is named like "SeriesName S01E01 NameOfEpisode.mkv". I have no problem getting the metadata for the episode (but ther's no cover art). I only have Cover art for the entire Series, then each episode has a scene shot.
I know that the media Sub Type must be set to TV Show.

Is your problem because you don't want to copy the episodes to your computer (you want to put a disk in drive and have it read all the episode data?)? I'm not sure from your posting if you are doing something different from me.

Do you have the data displayed like this:

Yes my point is that it doesn't get metadata for tv shows stored on DATA discs.

I suppose you know it's because the metadata and art are written and stored next to the video file. Since the DVD cannot be written to, some other solution would have to be implemented.

That isn't the cause of the problem. MC happily adds metadata for movies stored on data disc. I presume it just adds the info to it's own database. But it doesn't work when looking up tv shows.

Sorry, I've been talking rubbish. It works for tv shows stored on disc too.
