audio video sync

when I play a dvd or mkv pretty much any video my audio is behind by about 3 seconds.

you see an explosion 3 sec or so later you hear the boom. how can I fix this ?

Try setting video to Red October, and make no other changes.  Does that work?

Run the benchmark program under MC Help and paste the results here.

You could read about "Videoclock" here, but 3 seconds is an unusually long delay.  Something else may be wrong.

This machine is plenty quick 2500k OC to 4.5 ghz 16gb ram VC Nevidia 560 win 7x64.

Could you describe your audio output, hardware, and DSP used? 

One possibility is that you have set the primary buffer size too high in Options > Audio.  With a fast computer like yours, use WASAPI - Event Style or ASIO with a 50ms or less buffer.

Another possibility is that you're using a third-party DSP that adds a delay.

You can also configure for external hardware latency using Options > Video > Advanced > A/V sync correction.
