In what ways is RO Standard better than WMC for video quality?
« on: February 12, 2012, 11:01:17 am »

I understand both use EVR for a renderer. Are there other steps in the video stack that are better in RO Standard compared to WMC?

Thanks.

One example is if you rip a DVD to an .mkv file, RO Std will engage the MadVR video rendere. My experience is that this one is superior to EVR.

If th renderer is working properly, there should not be any difference between EVR in WMC and EVR in JRiver MC.

Totally different decoders in most cases, and MC uses hand-tuned settings for those decoders.

If you're just playing DVDs, then there might not be much of a difference between ROST and WMP's default playback.  Play a h264 or MPEG-4 ASP video though, and the differences can be stark.
