Repeated Frame Problem

Hi,

With this version, using, as usual, ROHQ, i get a consistently frame repeat every 39.XX seconds (CTRL+J).

Reverting back to a past version (ex: 17.0.82/83) I always get several days for a frame repeat/drop in the very same situation.

Yes, I am using videoclock.

The display refresh is at 24Hz (as I wish the 23.976Hz and 25Hz are played at original cinema speed) and movies frame rate are (as usual) 23.976 fps.

Sorry Matt,

After some more tests it seems is only working ok for VC-1 encoded movies, with H264 ones I always get a frame repeat every 39.xx seconds.

Videoclock appears on Audio Path for both formats and Tempo & Pitch is active in DSP Studio.

I can reproduce this issue  every time on my two HTPCs with ROHQ, for my Bluray Rips which are all on MKV (95%) or M2TS (5%) files.

With version 17.0.82 (stable):
- H.264 and VC-1 are ok, I always get several days for a frame repeat/drop.
- MPEG2 isn't ok, i get a consistently frame repeat every 39.XX seconds.

With 17.0.85 (latest):
- H.264 is ok, I always get several days for a frame repeat/drop.
- MPEG2 and VC-1 aren't ok, i get a consistently frame repeat every 39.XX seconds.

Videoclock appears on Audio Path for all formats and versions as Tempo & Pitch which is active in DSP Studio.

cmbe, does it change anything if you toggle hardware video acceleration?

The QuickSync changes are the only recent changes that I think could explain a difference.

Turning off the Hardware Acceleration with either version (17.0.85 or 17.0.82) leads to a repeated frame every 39.xx seconds with H.264, VC-1 and MPEG2.

Bedroom:

So, no Quick Sync here, only DXVA2 and CUDA.

I am assuming that you can't reproduce this issue?

I am using straight ROHQ. Only change I have made is to MadVR to run in exclusive mode.

ROSTD I don't try it yet as I see no signal of stress either from CPU or GPU.

BTW how can I get the statistics page on the EVR?

As I always keep a backup before any change in my HTPCs, so i could get back the first version I ever installed: 17.0.075.

So I can conclude, that on my both HTPCs i have:

With version 17.0.075 and 17.0.82 (stable):
- H.264 and VC-1 are ok, I always get several days for a frame repeat/drop.
- MPEG2 isn't ok, i get a consistently frame repeat every 39.XX seconds.

With 17.0.85 (latest):
- H.264 is ok, I always get several days for a frame repeat/drop.
- MPEG2 and VC-1 aren't ok, i get a consistently frame repeat every 39.XX seconds.

Videoclock appears on Audio Path for all formats and versions as Tempo & Pitch which is active in DSP Studio.

So MPEG2 never worked ok, the reason to not detect this is that the format is uncommon on Bluray sources.

I have tried to disable Hardware acceleration, then I have for all situations a frame repeat every 39.xx seconds.

If you need that I send you a log or by any means a anything else to further help, please ask.

I have updated to 17.0.089 but, with no surprise, the same issue remains.

Have gone back to 17.0.082 again.

I have some additional information on this issue:

If I turn off Videoclock, madVR reports the same "frame repeat every 39.xx s", and of course only RoomEQ is displayed on the Audio Path.

In my case it is like for versions above 17.0.82, maybe Videoclock isn't doing his job ("tempo +0.9998x for videoclock" is displayed on Audio Path), for any format (H.264, VC-1 and MPEG2).

For versions equal or below 17.0.82, Videoclock  works fine for H.264 and VC-1 ("tempo +1.0008x for videoclock" is displayed on Audio Path), but not for MPEG2 ("tempo +0.9998x for videoclock" is displayed on Audio Path).

All files tested are 23.976Hz and my NVIDIA are set for 24Hz, as I want my movies played at cinema speed.

We're aware of your problem, but we're not hearing it from others, so I don't know what to say.

The recent changes in video were for Intel cards and to update the LAV filters.

You may know that you can specify the frame rate (FPS tag) for each video.

I assume you're testing several videos, not just one.

So I am alone with this. It is weird, but as I said before I reproduce it on my two HTPCs with different Hardware.

Yes, I have tried several videos.

The FPS are correctly reported by madVR (23.9376), as the Graphics card frequency (24Hz).

There is no log/trace that I can activate and report back?

I know that is no help, but the exact same two HTPCs with Mediaportal 1.2.2 and LAV Filters/Splitter 0.45 and Reclock it works ok (no dropped/repeated frames).

ROSTD seems to work fine, but EVR isn't MadVR ;-).

Right now I am restoring a backup of one of my HTPCs, with an image right before I install MC17. Then I will straight install 17.0.89 and see what happens.

     VC-1 - Works fine, a frame repeat for several days.

2) 23.976fps videos reproduced at 24Hz with Videoclock and ROHQ (my typical usage):
     h.264 and MPEG2 - I always get a frame repeat every 39.xx seconds.
     VC-1 - Works fine, a frame repeat for several days.

I am clueless.  :(

Does your graphics card have a 23 Hz option? If so, try that and let us know.

23.976 in my NVIDIA GPUs (GT520 e GT560ti) are the 23Hz you mention.

If you wish to play your movies at original source speed, you can select:

FILM 23.976 - 1920x1080x32x23
FILM 24 - 1920x1080x32x24
NTSC - 1920x1080x32x60
PAL - 1920x1080x32x50

You get an occasional repeated frame at a regular interval on two PC's.

ROHQ has the problem.

ROST does not.

You are not using any additional filters.

Hardware accelleration makes no difference.

Video on both machines is Nvidia.

Is that correct?

It looks to me like VideoClock isn't engaging properly in some cases.

Yes, with just a small correction, after some more tests: ROST stutters every 39.xx seconds. As EVR statistics give very little information (by this, there were no jitter, dropped frames, etc.) I used a chronometer to determine this.

In a coming build:
Fixed: VideoClock was not engaging in some cases so there could be frame repeats / frame drops.
Changed: VideoClock will allow up to a 1% clock drift to achieve a perfect 2.5 video to refresh rate multiplier (used for 24 Hz video on 60 Hz display).
