Media center upnp server dreamstream
« on: March 01, 2012, 11:41:40 am »

Hi

I have an hp dreamscreen (sad but true), it can find my windows media center, and my twonky server. But it cannot find any jr media center servers (regardless of what configuration settings i try). I know the jr media center is working because other windows computers on my network can see it. Also JR Media center can see the dreamscreen as a remote dlna device (although controlling the device seems somewhat beyond its control also).
Any ideas on what could be the difference between the way jr media center responds to the device compared to twonky or windows media center ? Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this ?

thanks
Nz

What's the exact name of your MC server as you see it on you other windows machines?

For example, mine is
bob (Generic DLNA)

Sorry my brain must be fried, I thought the MC server was being picked up by my ps3. But it isn't. So none of the MC servers are viewable from anywhere outside of the machine it is running on (They do show up on WMP12). I have tried to completely disable the firewall and that didn't make any difference either.

Media server names are
zippy-PC (Playstation 3)
zippy-PC (Generic DLNA)

Working ones are
woot
ZIPPY-PC

Is there a router between your PC and the PS3?
You may have multicast filtering turned enabled on it (it should be disabled).
How about a second firewall like zone alarm or some such?

Hi Bob,

I too am struggling with getting MC running on my Transporter (SB). I checked my router settings but could not find a setting for "multicast filtering". What wording should I be looking for?

Unfortunately that seems to differ depending on the router. On dd-wrt it's called "filter multicast" and should be disabled.

I use a MediaLink router and the only "filtering" available is the "MAC Address Filter" and it is NOT enabled.

That's something completely different and it should normally be off.

Did you look to see if the options for server, renderer, controller are turned on under Media Server->Advanced?

When you say you are struggling getting it running, what exactly do you mean? (what's not showing up where??)
