unable to read cd's

sent earlier msg stating that after using mj for first time yesterday, I responded to a msg that had something to do with auto insert notification. I responded by permitting MJ to close down the ain.  Since then my drive will not read cd's.  I have rebooted many times since and even re-installed windows millenium.  John T responded earlier, but I don't know how to get back to him.  Can anyone help?  thanks.
