Cannot setup TV channels (put_CountryCode failed)
« on: May 08, 2002, 03:37:31 am »

If I try to search for TV channels this message appears:
"PlaybackEng: put_CountryCode failed. Cannot setup TVTuner. Code: 0X80070057."

I chose "Czech Republic - Cable" when I was prompted for the first time.
I don't know how to change my country settings, so I cannot say if the same error occures when another country selected.

Which version and build of Media Jukebox do you use? And what TV device do you have?

This seems to be an old bug we have fixed. So make sure you use the latest build (if version 8). A work around is to manually add a known channel and play it. Then you can scan for all channels.

The error msg appears even when I try to watch a manually added channel. The search is not possible, too.

I'm using:

Did you try doing the setup in the ATI software?  If it doesn't work, there may be another problem.

In general you should first make sure that ATI MMC works.

But you can first try deleting this registry key and restart TV:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JRiver\Music Exchange\1.0\Media Jukebox\TV Settings

If that does not help, I would suggest you download the latest ATI MMC from ATI site and install it. For TV Wonder cards, the MMC download comes with the latest WDM driver. Use the downloaded program to install the WDM driver and then install MMC.

Hey Vraana,

If I'm not mistaken Dscaler uses VFW, so you may have a problem only on WDM. One thing that you need to install for the ATI MC to work (at least on my Radeon 7500 AIW ) is the Video Capture Update for the Direct X runtime. The standard run time of DirectX does not contain all the video capture/tv tuner stuff. If you do not have it on the tv wonder cd, you can get it from the ms site.

I already have the latest ATI drivers installed and the DirectX is not a problem as well - MS says: "Users of Microsoft Windows® XP do not need to download the Video Capture Update. All required files are included in Windows XP."

MMC can search for channels, I can hear the propper sound, but the screen is blank.
I tried pretty hard to solve this problem discussing it on ATI related conferences, but I failed as a lot of other ATI users. This problem is very common under XP (MMC works well under 9x).
If all other solutions fails the last proposal is to stop using MMC and to use another app.

If you suppose that the problem is the ATI Driver, I give it up.

I wish JRiver you good luck developing MJ. I like it anyway.
Thank you for your help.

From your description it sounds like an ATI driver problem on XP . You could try looking for a VFW driver for your card(there are some open source drivers that are supposed to work with the tv Wonder) but this can get pretty technical very quickly, or just give up and use Dscaler to watch tv

Even though it may not help much, but if you have not already done it, just give it a try. To change to another country, you can do "Scan Channels". You will be given a diolog box to choose a country. An alternative is to delete the registry key that I mentioned in my previous post and then start TV. The same dialog box will appear.

Never mind about my previous post. I just discovered that the country code table that I am using seems to be outdated. It assigns both Czech Republic and Slovak Republic to code 42 and SECAM_D format for Czech and PAL_B format for Slovak. The more updated values should be

420 PAL_D for Czech
421 PAL_B for Slovak

Vraana, can you confirm that the TV standard is PAL_D for Czech Republic?

I will make the change and hopefully it will make into the next build. Please try it then.

I'm not sure about TV format. But surely it's PAL_?, not SECAM.
What I am sure is that country code for Czech Rep. is  420 and
country code for Slovak Rep. is 421 (it has chaged few years agoNext Page

I will write an email to my TV provider to confirm the format, but I'll get the answer not sooner than on Monday 13. Yaobing, do you work on weekends?

I do not work on weekends. But I occasionally anwser Interact questions on weekends.

A new build of TV control was submitted to Nikolay on Thursday but it was not early enough to make into MJ build 270. It will be in the next build of MJ, whenever that will be.

well sort of

really I had 1 beer, and now I am drinking a lemon Sundance (something I dreamed up)

it basically is lemon aid (caution: only use real lemons, they taste better), with some Grenadine syrup (very small amount)

Thanks, I've received the MJTVcontrol and it seems to be working WELL.

I can search for channels, I can list channels, I can hear the sound, but I cannot see the picture. I suppose THIS is the problem of ATI WDM. I'll try to clean-install OS next month, so I belive I'll be more lucky with the ATI drivers.

Anyway, You were able to solve the problem within one week, that's what I call a good support
