Why doesn't DSP Studio dialog stay-on-top (of the main MJ window)?

I seem to remember a discussion about this a few weeks ago, but can't figure out why the decision was to not have it stay on top.  It's quite annoying to have it continually hiding behind MJ main window when you are trying to examine a track in DSP Studio and switch tracks in the MJ main window.  No other pop dialog in MJ hides behind the main MJ window (that I can recall/find).

Same as the last build...

(1) HP|PLS| 8200e crashes when retrieving CDDB data for a CD new to MJ.  "BAD_POOL_..." error on a blue screen.

(2) MJ crashes when ripping with the above drive and gives a error relating to IRQ on a blue screen.

(3) Sample window for changing the font does not change when user goes through different fonts.

#'s 1 and 2 are recent developments...within the last few builds.
CDDB lookup and ripping works with my dvd drive.

starflyer,
It's bedtime, isn't it?

CDDB problems lately... it may be CDDB.  Could be MJ, but nothing there has changed.  Just a wild guess here.  Try increasing the CDDB timeout.

I'd agree that the crashing problem with my PlexWriter is a CDDB problem if it also occured with my DVD drive.  But like starflyer, the dvd drive is error free.  In addition to freezing while accessing the CDDB, I'm experiencing blue screeens while ripping with the PlexWriter.  I've ripped hundreds of CDs with that drive and have never had a problem before this last build.

Big Bug....

Plug-In Manager will make MJ do a death roll if an encoder is selected. Read Trelanes' post about the new mpc encoder. Thought I should delete the old one first. Plug-In manager comes up fine, select the encoder and zorch, whole machine dies. Reboot the only cure. This is 100% repeatable.

Also, now have two Pattern Mix visualizations. Old one is still present.

Still getting a click when starting play from stopped.

With fast fadeout selected; takes 3 seconds to stop play and another 1 second for the progress slider to return to the start position.  Performance slider is set 3/4 to right (closer to performance).

Octimax dsp plugin will not display inside DSP Studio; it free-floats outside the box.  DFX stays inside and looks good.

Still getting image trimmed at edges in Maximize view in Mega mode.  Compare screen shots; open each in a new window and flip between them.  Also notice how toolbar button labels are truncated:

LC,
The click could be a sound card problem.  We're not hearing it other places.

What sound card?  I'm seeing a pattern of problems related to Sound Blaster cards.  Then again, there are a lot of Sound Blaster cards.

Never mind about the border clipping in maximized; all Windows apps do it.  Maybe you'd want to make skins with the titles and control markings a little farther from the edge.

In green eyes skin buttons don't always stay skinned.  It randomly loses the skin on the buttons.  Happens on popup screens like file properties.

So, I completely removed MJ and reinstalled to see if I could get rid of my non-working VBR deal. Well, it fixed that. I can rip with VBR now, but MJ seems to be crashing like crazy. I had to re-import all my files and I was going through and changing some tags. There are miscellaneous crashes when I edit tags. I selected all of a Beatles CD (the MP3s, not the CD) and tried to change the Artist from Beatles, The to The Beatles and it crashed. So, I tried selecting a few songs at a time and it still crashed. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it would crash. I just tried changing one track and it crashed.

I don't know why it's doing it and it gives me no indications and no errors, just closes out.

Still in 8.0.267beta
Still in 8.0.266beta
Bug in 8.0.265beta - CD names not shown correctly

Still the process of reading the content of MP3 CDs is not real good. If
a CD, that shows up in the explorer as 'Complete_CDs_01', is read, the
section File Location shows (0x5601E92A) and the section CD and DVD media a
CD named 'unassigned'. If I add mores CDs, it still shows a single
'unassigned' folder instead of the real name of the CD. Out of 5 CDs
'Complete_CDs_01' through 'Complete_CDs_05' only the last showed with
correct name under CD and DVD media.

To show the content of a specific CD is therefore not straight forward!

Can this be changed?

My system: NT 4.0 with all SPs, 500 Mhz PIII, 198MB RAM

In the "Playing Now" window, if I want the tracks of a CD or playlist organized by anthing other than "Seq" (Album, or Artist, or Name etc.) MJ resets to organizing them by "Seq" whenever I start up MJ the next time. Also, how can I not display the "Seq" column at all? I don't want it shown, but when I right-click on the columns, the "Seq" selection is greyed out. Also, when I try to customize the toolbar and put the text label to the right of the icon, not all of the icons show a text label. Specifically on my system the mini-me toolbar icon show the text label correctly, but the import media and skin manager icons don't show their text labels. Finally I was wondering, are you no longer adding new features the mini-me skinning engine?

Only thing I would like to see changed before this version is released is that updating a songs id3 tag results in the song restarting. When I'm trying to rate all my songs one by one it's really annoying when each one restarts after I update the tag. It'd be REALLY nice if you guys would just make it continue again at the same spot after an id3 tag is updated.

Or delay posting the update, until the song stops playing.  You can hide the actual timing of writing the file from the user.

I notice that the left hand main MJ menu doesn't have any dashes etc, linking the various components e.g. Playing Now, Media Library, Playlists, CD DVD & Hand Helds, TV Tuner, Web Media & their associated sub components when opened.

I'm sure it use to, or am I wrong?  It just looks a bit wierd & naked looking without some sort of linking markings to tie the whole thing together.

Kindest regards - Rusty.

What'd you mean by this? Can I set a property somewhere so that the update is only done when the song finishes? I wouldn't mind the update being placed in a que type thing so that it's not done until the song ends.

BUG - I found another one. Never noticed it in previous versions so I think it's new to the latest build.

I have a multimedia keyboard (and I'm sure you guys do after I heard your setup's with your remotes etc, ). Using the play/pause button on my keyboard no longer works properly. Sometimes it pauses or starts the songs, other times it doesn't.
I dont mean with other songs or anything else changed. Just like waiting a few seconds and trying again sometimes makes it work and sometimes it still doesn't.

If Media Jukebox is in focus though it works.

In the "Playing Now" window, if I want the tracks of a CD or playlist organized by anthing other than "Seq" (Album, or Artist, or Name etc.) MJ resets to organizing them by "Seq" whenever I start up MJ the next time.

Seq is the sequence in which they're going to be played. If you want them sorted differently (and then played in that new order) sort them how you want, then right click and choose "Update Playback Order". If you want them just displayed in a certain way but still playing in the order specified by Seq, then you're out of luck.

Also, how can I not display the "Seq" column at all? I don't want it shown, but when I right-click on the columns, the "Seq" selection is greyed out.

You can't in any kind of permanent manner. You can shrink the Seq column down until it dissapears, but it comes right back the next time you visit Playing Now. Perhaps this is a bug?

Also, when I try to customize the toolbar and put the text label to the right of the icon, not all of the icons show a text label. Specifically on my system the mini-me toolbar icon show the text label correctly, but the import media and skin manager icons don't show their text labels.

Instead of choosing "Selective text on right", choose "Show text".

Finally I was wondering, are you no longer adding new features the mini-me skinning engine?

No new features. Only bug fixes now.

Yes, that is the exact meaning.
I did a SEARCH INTERACT and found this suggestion over a year ago, along with many users' favorable comment.
Never received an official response from JRiver, yet.

Bug (pontentially very bad):
1. While downloading music via the Download Manager (with 'Play Downloaded' option set), if you are in Playing Now and press Shift|PLS|Delete to delete some tracks from Playing Now & from the hard disk (optionally)...and DM finishes downloading a track or two and adds them to the Playing Now playlist while the Confirm Delete dialog is displayed, the selection(s) in Playing Now are changed (to the currently playing track).  If you go ahead and press the Delete button in the Confirm Delete dialog, MJ deletes the the currently selected track(s)...not the tracks that were selected when you first pressed Shift|PLS|Delete.  This has the pontential to cause deletions from MJ and disk that the user actually did not select (because of the DM additions to Playing Now after the Confirm Delete dialog was displayed).  This is probably an issue if you are deleting from Recently Imported too and you have DM's 'Import Downloaded' option set.

Rusty says:

I also noticed this in the last build. At the same time I noticed that the help pages in another program on my machine, AutoCad LT 2001i, had also lost the linking lines. Coincidence? And worse, the  tabbed help pages in that program won't display using the mouse. This has happened on two different machines after installing the MJ beta. I wonder?

Doof, I tried you advice and sorted my playlists by Name and then used the "Update Playback Order", but the next time I open MJ it just goes back to sorting by "Seq". Also, if it's not possible to not display the "Seq" column permanently, I think their should be.

Kerensky> When you update the playback order, Seq becomes whatever order you had it sorted with.

So if I sort Playing Now (Playing Now is NOT a permanent playlist, so if you're trying to resort a playlist you have to do it in that playlist not in Playing Now) by name, then the Seq column will be all random, because while the files are displaying in order by name, the sequence is still what it used to be. When I choose Update Playback Order, then Seq changes to match the current sort.

File Properties/Vis Studio is using "3D Object" text on a "Window"'s background. This is all fine and dandy when using "Default" system colors but when you start changing them, that's where MJ gets all weird. You can't see what your editing with white on white, black on black, etc. Other programs don't do this kind of behavior. MJ7 is the same way.

It should be using "Window Text on Window Background" OR "3D Object Text on 3D Object Background (Message Box)" NOT "3D Object Text on Windows Background". I'm sure this is an easy fix. I would prefer the first of the two cause you have the second one for the edit type (name, artist, etc.)

I'm using a msstyle theme and it all great except when in MJ cause I can't see anything.
---
Also when skins are disabled, the status bar isn't skinned (WinXP). Used to work before skinning was implemented.

Interested parties might want to review the topic
Analyze Gain

I think there's a general problem with the MP3 Decoder in that it cannot be run more than once at the same time without causing some sort of corruption.   So any combination of playing, gain analyzation, converting, burning direct to CD, etc. that use the MP3 decoder are suspect.  The corruption seems to be bilateral.  If you're playing and converting, either or both the audio playback and the converted track might be corrupted.

Bugs:
1. If your system is muted (eg, tray speaker icon muted) and you start MJ, MJ always un-mutes your system.  If I've muted my system, I want it muted and don't want any program automatically un-muting it for me.

2. Sometimes MJ crashes when in mini-me mode and your system is muted and you change mini-me skins via the mini-me right-click menu.  I experienced a crash 3 times in a row, then it stopped...but, I suppose it'll happen again if I try a few more times.  [I was switching back-n-forth from LowerLeft and LowerRight.]

LC:

I too am using the Santa Cruz card, but with the older 4142 drivers (I couldn't get the new ones to work -have to admit I didn't try too hard thoughNext Page ). -Point is I dont get the click you describe, however I notice the newer drivers fix a problem of a click when booting the system (which I still get, annoying).

I'll try again with the new drivers and let you know if I get the click in MJ.

  • I know there are no CHANGES to be made to MJ8, but I really miss being able to make quick volume adjustments with the mouse-wheel.  Would it be possible to have the focus go-to/stay-with the volume panel whenever the mouse is outside the MJ mega/mini-me window?  ..... please Next Page

  • Switching between mini-me skins is still a bit buggy. (I switch alot between pre-MJ8 and post-MJ8 skins -to use the mouse-wheel volume control which works in pre-MJ8 skins! ...hint, hint... Next Page )                                 Seriously though, MJ crashes whenever I switch from ZR's "LowerRight" to a "pre-MJ8" skin. I have tested this quite a bit and MJ will happily switch from any pre-8 skin to LR (or any post-8 skin). -Because to do this you must use the Skin Manager.    -But on post-MJ8 skins there is a short-cut menu. -Whenever I use this short-cut menu to switch to a pre-8 skin: CRASH.

However if I use the skin manager to do the same thing: no-problems.

I have tested this on many different pre & post MJ8 skins and many times over, and I have found that the crash will ALWAYS occur from LR but sometimes the JRiver skins work OK (crashed 3 times out of 10).

    Curious.

I hope this helps you continue the wonderful work of helping all of us with our MJ addiction. Next Page

    cheers

I'm unable to save notes in properties.  There's no error message but when I reopen properties, the note I just added is gone. I've tried this on a a couple of dozen files, those ripped prior to this build and those ripped with this build.

    Memory leak...

Each time I close down MJ 8.0 it is still using processes.  Right now I am looking at Win XP, Windows Task Manager, Processes tab & there are 5 instances of "Media Jukebox.exe" running.  Each is using around 550 - 600KB of memory.  If MJ 8.0 is currently running, deleting them one at a time has no effect until I hit upon the current one that is actually open.

New MJ 8 user (just upgraded from 7.2).  Ripping with "digital secure" (any speed) no longer works with the stock CD-ROM (Lite-On LTN486  48x Max) on my 6 month old Dell Precision 340 (2.4 GHz, 1GB memory).  I'm running Windows XP with all updates.  Error message typically is "failed to read sector __; incorrect function".  Logs show various sectors unreadable. Ripping does work in other modes (e.g., digital error correcting).

Ripping works in all modes (including "digital secure") using a 2nd drive, an HP CD-Writer|PLS| 9900j.

Unfortunately, using MJ 7.2 and after many EAC experiments, I do not trust the HP drive (even in digital secure mode), and it also ripped much slower than the Dell-supplied drive, so I hope to get Dell-supplied drive working.

Remaining problems with Media Server seem to be straightened out. Now streaming clearly, without buffering. Am not using existing playlists loaded from my host computer, which seem to be associated with excess buffering. Instead, compiled my own Playing Now lists on the client computer, all 128kbps.

    Great job gang.

further to my note on "digital secure" not working properly on the Dell-supplied drive: although it does "work" using digital large buffer, results differ from those produced by EAC.

    ZRocker,

    >If your system is muted (eg, tray speaker icon muted) and you start MJ, MJ always un-mutes your system. If > I've muted my system, I want it muted and don't want any program automatically un-muting it for me.

I can't reproduce it. Check Settings->Options->Startup Setting, make sure that Statup Volume is off.
