Release audio device on pause? (+ fade on pause)
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:32:44 am »

This would be a nice feature when using 'exclusive' audio modes, if a quick pause is needed e.g. for a YouTube session, without having to lose the playing position ('Stop'). Could be also combined with a feature requested elsewhere, the 'fade on pause'.

I like this idea (Fade on pause is now implemented)

Doesn't "Stop" remember the position? Seems to do for me.

I suppose if pause really stopped we could just get rid of the stop button.  Apple users would rejoice.

I may be too connected to the technicals of what is happening inside playback, but I've never liked not having a stop button.  It gets extra confusing for video.

Agreed.  I think I requested a release-on-pause a while back.  I shout out a great big Dooh! whenever I have MC paused, and foolishly try to play something in Spotify.

I'm for getting rid of Pause, so long as Stop-Play does resume playback.

I'm for getting rid of Pause, so long as Stop-Play does resume playback.

If I pause a movie to make some popcorn, I wouldn't like it if it stopped.

Play will already resume at the same spot, but playback changes resolutions on the projector and takes a little while to get going.

You could make a pause only turn to a stop after some amount of time, but then I'm not sure what good the change is really doing.

Good points Matt.  I was only thinking in terms of Audio.

I frequently listen to long audio programs, and pause periodically to do other things, often overnight.  I sometimes forget that MC is paused, and then there is no audio when I try to use other programs.

Pause is nice because it doesn't require relying on Use Bookmarking defaults or specifically enabling bookmarks prior to pausing.  But if I happen to also have something like Spotify paused and then try to resume playback there, it fails due to exclusive mode in MC, so I have to restart Spotify.

If you can work something out, that'd be great, and if not, I'll eventually learn to Stop Doing That.

I would like a "release on pause" feature, as well.
