TV Playback Problems From Remote Library Server
« on: March 30, 2012, 05:06:39 pm »

I have a machine set up as a library server running the latest version of MC17 (17.0.99) under Windows 7 64 bit.  The tuner is an HD Homerun configured on the server, and it plays back OK there.  My HTPC is running the same version of MC17 and Windows, and I connect to the library server for all media playback, including TV, which works fine.  I recently built a new HTPC, same version of MC17 and Windows, and also connected to the library server.  Unfortunately, TV playback is not working.  I get a "Timeout waiting for device writer" error.  All the other media plays OK.

I have tried disabling Windows Firewall and anti-virus software, but no luck.  I tried looking at the log files, and it looks like the graphs are slightly different, so I wonder if that might be the problem, but both machines are using Red October, so I'm not sure what to do about it.

I certainly would appreciate any suggestions on what to try next.

In case anyone has a similar problem.  I was able to solve this.  I needed to first set up HD Homerun directly under the MC17 local library.  Once I got playback working there, I could switch to the remote library and TV playback worked OK.
