Mac Version
« on: April 01, 2012, 07:44:22 am »

JRiver is pleased to announce that 2012 is the year of the Mac for Media Center.

Marc Andreessen, founder of Netscape and Silicon Valley investor, has offered to support JRiver's efforts in the digital media space, saying "compared to JRiver, iTunes is a toy".

Awesome!
While I'm not a Mac user - it's great to hear that influential people in the software business recognize the value and positive future/growth of JRiver MC.

Great news for April 1st.  How is the Kinect project coming along to replace remote controls in Theater View?

Oh, and I almost agree about the comparison to iTunes.  Except I think he was being kind.

I've been considering getting a Mac and have been researching how to co-exist all of my media (pictures, videos, music) and Windows media apps (MC...) with Mac apps. Assuming this is not an April Fools joke, this makes my decision to buy a Mac easy.

So glad it's 1 April. Rewriting for Mac would be such a huge project that no further development would be done for a few years I think. And after that, the development would probably have to be split. I thank JRiver for every year that this subject have not gotten further :)

I got goosebumps when I saw the title of the thread and who'd started it. Then my heart sank as I realised the date (for the umpteenth time that day). Pity - I think PC development of MC wouldn't need to cease if sufficient extra resources were being provided from an external source as the first post implied.

There are still hundreds and perhaps thousands requests for further development of this amazing software every year, even though it beats all other competition in most fields. What if those resources was put into developing MC even faster? I think the majority would like that even more. In fact I'd be willing to be quite a lot on it.

You are underestimating Matt's programming cleverness ;D. Under the hood he has been writing Mac compatible code for at least a couple of years now. Probably 60-80% of MC code should by now be Mac compatible 8). Don't be suprised to read one day in the feature list:

NEW: MAC version of MC X.Y available for download. Please report any problems!

A large part of what makes JRiver great is the tradition of trust it has built with its customers.  This new Mac version can't help but move that further along!
