Simultaneous digital and analog in windows 7
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:54:11 am »

Hi guys,
I recently upgraded my HTPC to Windows 7 from XP.
And lost one feature I really liked in XP - the ability simultaneously output audio to digital and analogue outputs.
The reason I need this:
For some movies/shows (mostly in stereo/mono, not multichannel) I prefer to use TV's speakers instead of the full blown receiver + 7.1 speaker system.
My spdif is connected to the receiver via optical and the stereo analogue is connected directly to the TV.
It worked perfectly in XP.
Doesn't work in Windows 7.
I googled and it appears to be a special feature of vista/7.
Couldn't find a solution which would work for me.
Does anyone know of a workaround/solution?
Thanks!

Zones might work.

Hi Jim,
Thanks! Zones worked beautifully!

I actually tried zones yesterday and it didn't work (I am not that familiar with zones). This morning, encouraged by your reply, I gave it a more careful try and it worked!

Zone 1 -- WASAPI to Optical
Zone 2 -- Direct sound to Speakers
Link Zone 1 to Zone 2
Voilą!

Merci,

Will this work when bitstreaming TrueHD / DTS-MA audio to a receiver? That is, bitstreaming HD audio and outputting analog at the same time?

I want to bitstream the audio to receiver, and have JRiver simultaneously output the same audio in stereo out the computer's normal analog outputs.

The reason is that I have a large auditorium which is powered by a receiver/amps, but also need to hear the audio inside the auditorium booth. If I could get JRiver to bitstream and also output analog stereo that would greatly simplify things.

(I don't own JRiver, but will certainly buy it if this is possible!)

That should work, but you can test it by downloading MC17.
