Commercial Skipping not working on client machine
« on: April 26, 2012, 04:15:27 am »

I can't get commercial skipping to work when playing a video on a client working off a server library. The same videos do skip when played directly on the server. Anyone else having this problem or have a fix?

I have just started playing with comskip, but I am not having any issues using it on my client machines.  I do not have it set up to run on every show.  I run comskip manual when I want to generate the edl file for a specific show, but on the ones I have tested, I have not seen any issues.

I know this isn't much help, but maybe it will help point you in a direction,

I'm not using comskip - creating EDL manually. The EDL and video file sit on the server, where the library also resides. When playing those videos locally on the server, the EDL is obviously used as commercials are skipped.

When played on a client machine from the server library, the EDL information is not used as the commercials are not skipped.

Would be nice if someone from JRiver commented whether this is a known bug or not...

I'm not sure the client pulls the EDL file currently.  If not, I'll add it.

If I don't follow up by the middle of next week, please bump this thread.

Thanks.

The client does not currently pull EDL files.

Clients do make a call to get sidecar subtitles.  I'm trying to figure out if we should generalize this call to get all sidecars in one swoop, or if we should just add a new call for EDL handling.

Regardless, it'll be a few days before we work through this.

My clients are all mapped to the same drive as the server and MC is set to play the local file if available.  I place the .edl file in the T:\Recordings directory.  Could this explain why the .edl file works on my clients?

Thanks,

Yes.

If the client can get to the files, it's basically local playback.

This is a smart way to setup your system on a home network because it's really efficient and works with files that are a problem over a URL like Blu-ray.  Of course, it doesn't help if you're connecting from work or some other location.
