Unable to open restore format

I purchased Media Center 16. I downloaded a beta of Windows 8 and it wiped out my copy. I have tried three times to use the restore with a code provided. It quickly loads a strange file format. Something like MJR. I have tried to open it with both of my Windows based computers with no success. This is extremely frustrating. How do I open the damned thing?
