Restore Library from MC 15 to MC 17
« on: April 30, 2012, 05:38:37 pm »

HELP!  I recently inherited my brother's 4 TB of music.  He uses MC 15 and created a library backup.  I use MC 17 and tried to restore his back up to my library.  Now my MC 17 says its MC 15.  The music is all there but most of the buttons and functions don't work.  What did I do wrong? How can I fix it?

I purchased MC 17 late last year and restored the library from MC 15.  It worked great.  I added 400 new albums this year using MC 15 on another computer and did a library backup.  When I restored the library to the computer with MC 17 this year, most of the functions, next, forward, etc., do not work.  I can play one song at a time but can't play in shuffle mode.  How can I fix this?

Welcome.

You might uninstall and reinstall MC 17.  Download it from the 'Download' link above.

You should not need MC 16, MC 15, etc.  Feel free to uninstall them.

Matt,

Would this option have helped this user in a case like this?

Thanks Matt. I downloaded a fresh copy of MC 17 and re installed the back up data base.....same problem occurs. I checked the properties of the down load and it says it's MC 17 but when the data base opens it actually says it's MC 15.  I even tried a fresh import from the two drives (2 TBs each) and built a new library (7 hours)....same problem....  I'm wondering it there is a problem with the original MC 15 back up from the other computer.  It's almost like there is a copy of the MC 15 running inside of MC 17......wierd?

Make sure MC15 is set NOT to run Media Server on Windows startup.

I manage my music library with MC 15 but play it with MC 17, so I regularly load an MC 15 library backup into MC 17, no problem. I do not check the option to restore settings, perhaps that's a factor in your situation?
