FreeDB lookup without results
« on: May 03, 2012, 01:38:11 pm »

According the Jim & John one can select tracks in the library and do an internet database lookup  first in YADB and if not found there, in FreeDB
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=71829.msg486477#msg486477

I did a lookup but the only result I got was “No information found about these files”.

I selected the same tracks in MP3Tag and, as expected, the CD was found in FreeDB

Is the FreeDB lookup broken?

FreeDB is used for disc lookup, not track lookup.

Track lookup is YADB-only, and based on audio fingerprints.

What about implementing it?
As Jim thinks it is already implemented, he wouldn’t object  ;D

I thought you meant CD's.  The change you propose wouldn't work since the keys for each method are very different.

Today a lot of my music comes from the internet.
Often it is badly and/or very inconsistently tagged.

MC offers no options to correct this using an internet database beside YADB.
So I use MP3Tag as it offers me 4 different internet databases.

Doesn’t ring a bell.
The only thing I’m asking for is better tagging options for track already in the library.
If you have a good look at MP3Tag or even WMP (manual lookup) it is easy to see that MC is very much down on this aspect.
As a typical JRiver fanboy I do think MC beats any other player on any aspect be it functionality, flexibility, features, sound quality but in the tagging department it is simply very primitive and beaten by MP3Tag, WMP.
I would love to see this changed.

I'm just getting into tagging my growing classical music collection . As stated in this thread http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=71829.msg485614#msg485614  what shows on the screen using default tagging and views, especially in Theater View, is a mess.

I have just recently gotten into this, but must agree with Vincent that it is probably the weakest area in MC. At least for our usage of MC it is. Tagging of movies and TV shows has greatly improved in version 17: It would be very helpful if the same could be done for classical music.

Thanks,
Rod
