Author Topic: There is no playable file - trying to play audio over the network  (Read 14392 times)

In Tools, options, media network I put a check mark in "Use Media Network to share this library and enable DLNA
I left all else to the default during install.
When I use A Sony BDP-BX58 that is connected to the network it sees Generic DNLA and I select audio.  I select Album. I select any album listed. I get a message saying "There is no playable file"

Why can't I play anything?

Tools->Options->Media Network->Add or configure DLNA servers. Delete the Generic DLNA server then add one based on the Sony BD/TV template.

I made the change you suggested.

I'm still getting the same error on the Sony Blue Ray DVD player "There is no playable file"

What else can I do?

What type of files are you trying to play (format and number of channels)?
When you go into Audio/Album do you see albums?
If so, is the problem that you don't see tracks when you go into an album??

MP3 files.  How can I tell how many channels.  As far as I know it one.

Yes.  And they play fine on the PC.

If so, is the problem that you don't see tracks when you go into an album??

I have not tried to get into tracks.  I have no idea how.

All mp3's are 2 channel only.

I assume you are in the Audio section of the Sony Crossbar? Because of the design of the Sony Crossbar (it's menu system) you can navigate into Audio from any of the Sony categories of Photo, Video or Music. If you go there from Photo or Video it won't work, you have to go there from Music.

It doesn't say anything about tracks.  The only wording it says is "There is no playable file"

The reason it looks the way it does is that the design of the Sony crossbar conflicts with the DLNA tree design.
Everything in the DLNA tree starts at the root, which shows Audio, Images, Video, Playlists. The crossbar makes you select the server first from Music, etc. Then it's starts at the server root, that's the reason for the repetition. Samsung handles this by some proprietary DLNA code (which we support) that allows one to start one level up from root but no other manufacturer has adopted this system.
