UNC / Network Share Problem with AVI files

Just purchased an upgrade to version 17 (build 17.0.155)
I can't play or import AVI files when using a network share such as \\whserver\TV
I can use a local path such as O:\TV and the AVIs will both import and play.
Is there a way to fix this functionality?
