Media Center OS?
« on: May 30, 2012, 10:45:42 am »

It would be really cool, if JRiver would offer OS like XBMC... Now I am trying to put some holy spirit back to my ancient 128mb computer, I would make it as music player in my living room. So, I thought that if JRiver would offer Media Center OS in the future, it would be really superb! I know, it is hard to make and keep up to date... So, I am not expecting that you could do it in one year, and since you have so small developer crew, you can just bury this idea ;)

And now it is time for a little off topic, so you know any media center OS/music/jukebox OS? I know that XBMC has one, but my ancient computer is not so powerful for it, I think... So, is there any linux distro that would serve as music player OS?

That is no small task. I do not even dare to think about all the things that would have to be rewritten an added to MC to make this happen.

Creating your own small Linux distribution is fairly easy, so thats why XBMC can do it without much trouble.

Doing the same for Windows, which is required for JRiver MC, is essentially impossible, if only for licensing troubles alone.

If you like fiddling around and are patient, you could try to use ReactOS to create your own project:

I know that project, but since it does not support ntfs at all, I would not want to split my files to fit FAT-partitions... So maybe my only hope is some of the lightweight distros... Like this: http://www.slitaz.org/en/ and use some other media player than xbmc or jriver, and I could make my android tab to work as a remote... So case closed, I think...
